Our volunteers will be out with PCSO Kevin Phillips on Half Moon Lane pointing their speed guns at speeding drivers. To join them mail kevin.j.p.hillips@met.pnn.police.uk. Community-spirited and fun
Our Man From the Met, Kevin Phillips, will be taking down the details while a Southwark Cyclist volunteer holds the speed gun. They will be on Dog Kennel Hill near its junction with Quorn Road. Nicely placed to catch those drivers speeding down the hill to jump the lights before the bridge.
The headline is not entirely accurate. As so often -- it's a lot more complicated than that. If it is raining the mechanics will be under the Arch, sheltering. If it is not raining and looks reasonably likely to stay that way they may well be at the foot of the steps beside the ramp. […]
Start/finish at Dulwich Clock Cafe, Dulwich Park, SE21 7EA. Loop up to Crystal Palace Park and back. Taken at an easy pace (you are allowed to walk the steep bits...). Dinosaurs look nice after some restorative work. Part of Southwark Cyclists regular Healthy RIdes series every Saturday morning, details at www,healthyrider.weebly.com. Route at https://goo.gl/rfUzwn. GPX […]
Community Speedwatch with Southwark Cyclist Werner representing the Community. With police protection he will be holding the speed gun on Croxted Road at the junction with Thurlow Park Road
At our not-so-new venue at 41 Grosvenor Park SE5 0NH (see picture below). It’s much more respectable than it looks. Coming from Burgess Park, cross Camberwell New Road and proceed in an westerly direction along Urlwin Street, under the railway bridges, left at the end and straight on into the cul-de-sac in front of you. Very […]

Through the foot tunnel, around the west side of Isle of Dogs, through […]
This is a  national cycling and walking protest & die-in against the government & Parliament before the autumn budget. It's organised by Stop Killing Cyclists, who base their approach on the very successful Stop the Child Murders die-ins in Holland, during the early 70s, which were the catalyst for the transformation of Holland into the most bike-friendly […]
Our man with a speed gun will be Werner backed up by Kevin the man from the Met. They will be at the junction of Long Lane and Staple St from 10-12 noon when all God-fearing and law-abiding people are in church.
This is a map of Quietway 1, London's best quietway. Lots of people like it. The numbers of people using it are increasing every year as riders tell their friends. We’re tending to use Quietway 1 for the Bike Train these days rather that the traditional route. This is mostly because Quietway 1 is a […]
The grey hair (see pic) is not compulsory, just a steady hand, at least one good eye and a strong dislike of speeding drivers. Cyclists score well on these points and Southwark Cyclists volunteers are supporting community speedwatch in Southwark under the guidance of PCSO Kevin Phillips. To volunteer mail Kevin on kevin.j.phillips@met.pnn.police.uk
The last Dr Bike of the season. Sad. Let's hope it's not raining because there's no shelter at our workplace -- and it will be getting dark by the end of it too. Four mechanics, one pro and three ace amateurs, will be mending bikes, indexing gears, tightening brakes, pumping up tyres, fixing that squeak […]
Repeat of this popular, easy-paced, ride last ridden in July. Start/finish from Cutty Sark, Greenwich, beside the foot tunnel entrance. It is surprisingly easy to take a bike on the Emirates Airline cable car at North Greenwich (although you do have to pay - £3.50 with Oyster Card etc). Route will go from the Airline […]
Start/finish Peckham Square (Peckham Library, Peckham Pulse, SE15 5JR). Easy-paced ride on mostly quiet streets to Look Mum No Hands in Old St. This is the original cycle-cafe in the City and is a popular destination for a ride. Unusually for a 2 hour ride we will stop for a coffee at LMNH. Flat route […]
Meet outside Prince William Henry, 216-219 Blackfriars Rd, London SE1 8NL for an enjoyably grumpy look at Southwark's Quietways. The leader will be Sean Howes a large, cheerful, determined bloke on a green Bromption. The group will cycle the section of QW14 in Southwark and then loop back up the section of QW1 before heading […]

Tower Bridge and back. Meet Dulwich Clock Cafe in Dulwich Park. Usual easy-paced ride on mostly quiet streets and paths with additional Dr Bike at start. Turn up a bit early if you would like something checked. Ride leader will be Charlie who is an expert bike mechanic. Out and back routes will be slightly […]
everyone knows that 1) speed cameras are just money-raising devices, that 2) drivers are the best judge of what is a safe speed. Everyone also knows that speeding is so commonplace and the police so busy that they don't have time to catch them all. Nevertheless, and bafflingly, complaints about speeding continue to flood in […]
