Have your say on Peckham Rye gyratory

Southwark Council, working with TfL, are proposing changes to the Peckham Rye gyratory, from Rye Lane to East Dulwich Road.

You can learn more about the changes here.  The deadline to respond is Monday, 17 March

Overall, we support the scheme but think a few elements need improving too. We recommend answering “Yes, I support the scheme but with concerns”

The survey asks about some specific proposals which we encourage people to support:

  • Support the proposed bus gate on Peckham Rye East
  • Support the closure of Scylla Road outside Rye Oak School to extend the school street and restrict through-traffic
  • Support the segregated cycle lanes on Peckham Rye East and Rye Lane

We’d also encourage people to suggest some specific improvements that we feel are needed

  • Create a means to cycle between Nigel Road and Peckham Rye (east side). Currently in designs, there is no safe way to join Peckham Rye southbound from Nigel Road, nor to access Nigel Road from the north or the South – the fact this is not currently in the scheme is a major worry given this route should be one of the primary  means to connect Cycleway 35 (to Nunhead) and the Southwark Spine cycle route and the destinations in Bellenden, Camberwell and beyond.
  • Close Nigel Road to through traffic. This has the potential to greatly improve traffic flow on Peckham Rye and make the area safer
  • Junction of Rye Lane/Copeland Road – cycle provision should have dedicated physical space and dedicated cycle signals
  • Integrate the cycle route on Sternhall Lane into the Rye Lane/Copeland Road junction
  • Remove the parking on the west side of Peckham Rye and widen the pavement outside the shops
  • Provide more cycle parking by the shopfronts on Peckham Rye west and east

Don’t miss the chance to have you say! Fill in the consultation here. It only takes a minute.
