Lots of photos from this ride! Amanda leading approx 15 riders from Cutty Sark to Lesnes Abbey at Abbey Wood. Stopped at Thamesmead Tor, the small man-made hill. Lots of nice comments and more photos on WhatsApp (Southwark Cyclists). Gloria: “Amanda that was an awsome ride. Loved the different routes we travelled along and exploring the Tor. thanks for a warm welcome and inclusive ride.” Jamie:”Many thanks Amanda for yet another fabulous ride today. Great turnout and happily we just missed the dreaded Morris Dancers at Cutty Sark.” Photos from Amanda, Gloria, David W., Shelagh and Jamie.

Ride 2. Canada Water to Greenwich Park and Blackheath

Here is the report from Ride Leader Simon K.

The Magnificent Seven rode out of Deal Porter Square (Canada Water) to Russia Dock Woodlands. A first for Southwark Healthy Rides (SHR) was Rob on a scooter. We paid our respects to the founder of SHR, Barry Mason, also local boy Michael Caine and Phyllis Pearsall who came up with the London A-Z map. They are remembered in metal sculptures beside the water sports dock. We followed the river for much of the way to Greenwich, by which time we were running a little late. With a mixture of electric power, peddle power and legs we managed the hill in the park, then taking in the view from the Observatory, one of London’s classic sights.

From there we went to Point Hill to take in the view of the City, unfortunately since my previous visit the vegetation had grown to mostly obliterate the view. Running late we decided to give the ride round the Heath a miss and headed to the coffee shop in the park by the entrance in Maze Hill. For the second time in a week I looked for the deer, but the warm weather is keeping them out of sight. On our return journey we stopped at the statue of the Russian, Peter the Great on the Deptford water front, where Bruce gave us a history lesson.  Despite not completing the whole ride we managed to arrive back about 20 minutes late. Rob on his scooter was impressively still with us.

Many thanks to Bruce as back marker, indeed all the riders for being my eyes and ears.
