The Great River Race by Bike

NOTE. Please register for rides on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers, link < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-great-river-race-2026-by-bike-tickets-2000146652480?aff=oddtdtcreator >The Great Thames River Race takes place every September with 300 or more human-powered craft of all shapes and sizes that race with the tide from Millwall Slipway to Ham, nr Richmond.
Mission
To cycle the 25 mile river route that the Great River Race crews take.
Coordinating Instructions and Timings.
The ride will start at 10.00am, from Canada Water Library (Deal Porter Square) on Saturday 12^th Sept 2026 where a short safety briefing will be given.
The ride should finish at Richmond Station approx. 3pm.
Please note this is an approximate finish time that could be affected by unforeseen events meaning that this ride is not suitable for riders with pressing agendas.

Rations and Water
There will be a coffee stop at Wandsworth Park Cafe en route.
There will also be a chance later to buy a snack etc when we reach Richmond where we will have an extended lunch overlooking the River Racing before we head for the finish at Ham.
Checks and Equipment
Riders are urged to pre-check their bikes e.g. A = Air in tyres, B = Brakes, C= Chain & gears etc, with no play in steering.
The river route can be gusty thus Riders are advised to bring: a warm fleece, waterproof top/trousers.

Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe.  If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place.
