Ride 1. Searching for Eggs at Canary Wharf

Photos above from Bruce
Thirteen riders set out from London Bridge shortly after 10am. After following Cycleway 3 to Westferry turned into Canary Wharf past the Museum of London Docklands on to West India Quay. Eyes now peeled for oversize, overdecorated eggs we rode towards the Elizabeth Line Station and turned across the bridge over North Dock. And there it was, egg number 1. Time for photos then off to Wood Wharf Bridge by a route following the waters edge. Paused at the giant whale leapng out of the water and continued to newly opened Union Square where we found another egg. This eastern edge of Canary Wharf is still being built, but much is now open. There is a wide shared path that connects to Prestons Road, the main road around the Isle of Dogs. This means there are now more optons for routes heading east/west between Blackwall and Limehouse. Next stop at Harbour Quay for coffee at the Wood Wharf Food Place run by Mercato Metropolitano. There was already a good-sized cycling group there! They were just moving off so there was plenty space for us.

Found 2 eggs on Harbour Quay then crossed back and walked our bikes down the curvy path in Jubilee Park. The seats and grassy area here were full of people. Canary Wharf really has become a destination in its own right. Spotted 3 more eggs in Jubilee Park. Time to leave Canary Wharf and head back by a short stretch of Thames Path then the ornamental canals from Shadwell Basin to St Katherines Dock. By this time we were down to 8 cyclists as people left the ride to head directly home. Running a tiny bit late, so opted to miss the ride round St Katherines and instead take the shortest route along East Smithfield, over Tower Bridge and along Tooley St. Back at the Needle at 12.35. The eggs were quite fun and the weather terrific. Thanks to Nigel for back marking. Route at https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1exSNQCrUKdrQSijtSjozmkwBOhMgDLY&usp=sharing
