Upstream Bridges

Back on Jan 13th we did a ride crossing the 6 central bridges over the Thames (report here). Now with Buce leaidng 7 of us headed upstream to ride the next 5 bridges, Lambeth, Vauxhall, Chelsea, Albert and Battersea.  After10 am start from Waterloo Station rode to Lambeth Bridge via Lambeth North station, Archbishops Park and Black Prince Rd. This indirect route means can avoid the worst of the south roundabout at the bridge. Left off Lambeth Bridge and along C6 to Vauxhall Bridge where another easy left took us back to the south side. Can mostly follow Thmes Path to Battersea Power Station but met some works at the end of the Riverside Walk that forced us to cross and cross back the busy Nine Elms Rd. Power Station not too crowded with pedestrians. Stopped by the large sphere full of lights for a photo. Apparently this needs to be seen at night to get full effect – part of the Battersea Power Station’s annual Light Festival, a free event running until 25h February 2024.

Continued through Battersea Park that was full of runners. Asked if there was an event on, received the reply “No, always like this”. Most impressive all those “Healthy Runners”. From the Park turned on to bridge number 3, Albert Bridge then along the short stretch of embankment to Battersea Bridge and back to the south side. This was our farthest bridge so back to Battersea Park, round the Carriage Drive with the runners. Stopped at the Pear Tree Cafe but this was so crowded proceeded to the small coffee stand close to the river. Not the greatest coffee but we could get our orders in wthout queuing.

Off again after a decent break and across bridge number 5, Chelsea Bridge. At the far side took a 2-stage right following the excellent road markings. Joined Cycleway 8 inder the rail bridge then left to Lupus St and Pimlico. Used the cycle crossing to get on to the cycleway on Vauxhall Bridge Rd and crossed Vauxhall Bridge for the second time. Final leg of the ride was Cycleway 5: Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, Vauxhall Walk, Newport St, Hercules Rd and Baylis Rd. Stopped at Waterloo Millenium Green opposite the Old Vic at 12.20. 10 miles, no hills. Exeryone happy.
