A ride to explore the much-praised cycle infrastructure in Waltham Forest, often called “Mini-Holland”. There are excellent cycle tracks, lovely neighbourhoods without through traffic (aka LTNs) and safe junctions. Just what we need in Southwark – and everywhere!

Simon Saville leading – 9.30am start from Southwark Gateway Needle, London Bridge. Hope to be back at 1.30pm, but it will depend on how many stops we make  Out past Bank and Moorgate, Columbia Road Market, Hackney City Farm, over the Regent’s Canal and past London Fields (start of the Dunwich Dynamo in a month’s time), Hackney Church and Millfields Park to Lea Bridge Road. Then a tour of Walthamstow and Leyton – including a break for refreshments, probably in Orford Road. Back through the Olympic Park (past the Velodrome), through Vicky Park and Mile End Park and along Mile End Road on C2. Jump across to C3 and avoid Tower Bridge by continuing to The Monument and back over London Bridge. This is a lovely ride, one that takes in roads that we don’t often use – with lots of interest. About 33km (20.5 miles), and mainly flat. Google Map of route: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1q6vWyaqw0XsZcYVHAUytyRz2w6EhNqI&usp=sharing
