Join us for a relaxed ride through some of South London’s finest parks, with a visit to the historic Herne Hill Velodrome, one of the oldest cycling tracks in the country and an important part of British cycling history.
Starting from Burgess Park, we will ride to Peckham Library, where riders may also join the group at 10.15am. From there, we continue along Rye Lane to Peckham Rye Park before heading via Friern Road to Dulwich Park. After crossing the park, we will make our way to Herne Hill Velodrome for a brief visit to watch the action and learn a little about this remarkable venue. Please note that we will not be riding on the velodrome track itself. We will then stop for coffee and refreshments in Dulwich before continuing to Ruskin Park and completing the final leg of the ride back to Burgess Park.
The route uses a mixture of traffic-free park paths and quiet, low-traffic streets. There are a few short hills, but the pace will be easy and sociable throughout. This ride is particularly suitable for relatively inexperienced cyclists who would like to build confidence, gain experience riding in a group, and discover new routes in South London. Everyone is welcome.
General Info. Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe. If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. This ride is part of a regular programme of Saturday rides, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/.
