Southwark Cyclist volunteers are working with the police to reduce illegal speeding on our roads. Community Speedwatch is a co-operation between the community (represented by us) and the Met. The community volunteer holds the speedgun and shouts out the numbers and PCSO Kevin Phillips writes down the registration numbers and makes. Then he looks up the drivers using Automatic Numberplate Recognition and they all get threatening letters. They are catching so many that the traffic police are getting involved with their own speedguns and handing out real fines.

This is worthwhile and a lot of fun. To join in mail kevin.j.phillips@met.police.uk and he will welcome you aboard with a list of dates and times to choose from. Give it a try.
