Ride 1. London Bridge to Hackney Marshes

Lots of nice comments on WhatsApp about this 32km ride. Report from Ride Leader John S.

We set off from London Bridge at 9.35am, on a cold and overcast…but luckily dry… morning, with 14 riders. Crossing the bridge, we headed over towards Tower Bridge and entered the CS2 which we followed all the way to Bow, where we accessed the Lea Navigation path. Onwards and upwards from there to the Hackney Marshes, and to our break at Markfield Park café, which we reached at 11am, as planned. After a leisurely break, we set off at 11.30am to carry on up our path, crossing the bridge at the Paddock to reach the entryway into Walthamstow Wetlands. As we made our way down the path by the resevoirs, there was a general call for a pause to allow everyone to clamber up the bank and take in the view (and we did not waste the photo opportunity). Coming out of the Wetlands, we stayed on the left hand side of the water as we made our way back down the Lea Navigation, and crossed by Wilton pt footbridge to return to our outbound path, now heading back down to Bow, and continuing onwards to the Limehouse Cut. This brought us to Limehouse Basin, where we picked up the CS3 to Tower Bridge and so to London Bridge, which we reached at 1.30pm precisely. A good time was had by all!

Thank you Michael for backmarking all the way, and to Jean for marshalling!

Ride 2. Not Peckham to Hornimam Museum

This ride is jinxed! We planned it for early January and it was so cold we cancelled. This time only David S. turned up. Maybe it was because the ride information mentioned hills! We abandoned the planned route and had a slightly shorter ride up to Nunhead Cemetery (path extremely muddy with large puddles). From there over to Ladywell Fields and NR21 down to Lewisham. More of the network of paths in the new development east of the station is now open. From Lewisham David led up Belmont Hill and along Blackheath Park to Blackheath. Ended ride at the new Ignatius Sancho Cafe.(https://www.royalparks.org.uk/visit/parks/greenwich-park/ignatius-sancho-cafe cafe) in the SE corner of Greenwich Park. Excellent coffee.
