Ride 1. Richmond Park from Waterloo

Ride leader Jamie: Very successful ride to Pembroke Lodge with 15 riders who enjoyed lunch in the shade with fantastic views. Chow and Mike kindly Marshalled, and we got through Twickenham Station without any hassle from Rugby crowds.
Additonal comment from Michael on whatsApp. To preserve the record for those that carried on to Twickenham, there were several more scenic sights around Richmond and along the river including salmon chinos intespersed with coconut matcha lattes and lots of river views including possible naked Thames swimming.

Report from Ride Leader Eva. 12 riders set off from London Bridge to explore 7 different bakeries’ offerings on what was predicted to be the hottest day so far in 2025. It was a ride across a variety of cycling infrastructure, from the great to the miserable. A newish London feature are the many Lime bike riders who completely ignore traffic rules and become a danger to others; luckily it was the Lime bike rider who came off her bike uninjured from trying to squeeze into our group by ignoring a red light and taking a corner far too sharply. Whilst it was a short ride (a bit over 10 miles), we had 2 (!) much liked coffee stops and at the other locations stopped to admire the goods and/or shopped to take some home. The bakeries on our ride were:
1. Mehmet Efendi (Turkish), 71 Whitechapel High Street
2. Rinkoff Bakery (Jewish/East-European), 222 – 226 Jubilee Street
3. Ambala (Asian), 144 – 146 Whitechapel Road
4. Fabrique (Swedish), Arch 385 Geffyre Street
5. Zeit für Brot (German), 1 Islington High Street
6. Aux Pains de Papy (French), 279 Grays Inn Road
7. Aux Merveilleux de Fred (Belgian), 1-3 Leadenhall Market
Riders made lots of suggestions for yet more specialist bakeries – source for further inspiration! Many thanks to John for his patient back-marking.
