Ride 1. London Models at the Guildhall

Report from Ried Leader Eva

10 riders set off from Dulwich Park, along Southwark’s “Spine” cycle route down to Peckham and from there to Burgess Park, over London Bridge to the London Center which is inside the Guildhall Library. None of the riders had heard about the London Center before, and even though the big model of London was “on exhibition tour to Cannes” this week, the beautiful models of the City of London and the Greenwich/Woolwich Thames area were admired by all. The way back had a much needed coffee stop at the cafe in Burgess Park where we enjoyed the sunshine. We all mastered the long, long way up Camberwell Grove before heading back to Dulwich Park.

On departure spotted the Company of Pikemen and Musketeers guarding the Guildhall. They act as ceremonial guard for the City of London Mayor. We were not quite sure whether they were only practising, or actually doing something. When we left the London Center, there was an important looking black limousine parked inside the Guildhall area, so maybe they were actually on duty!

Ride 2. Canada Water to the Thames Flood Barrier

Demon with Bowl by Damien Hirst

Report fromRide Leader Simon K.

Sixteen of us left Canada Water on a dry, but slightly breezy morning.

An uneventful ride through the Woodlands and then alongside the river. A pair of very boring anti-cyclist barriers are in place at the approach to the Cutty Sark where we had a brief stop. Onward to the O2 where I voiced a few notes and then the Barrier. I was relieved to get through the narrow stretches of pathway without colliding with the large number of pedestrians and joggers, possibly training for next month’s London Marathon. More historical notes at the the Barrier where backmarker David left us to do his own thing,

On our return journey we stopped for coffee at a cafe under the Cable car. I didn’t go in, but apart from the Q for the loo’s, it got favourable reviews. Running a bit late, at Cutty Sark we took the newly opened cycle lane to Canada Water, arriving back at 1.00 pm. With thanks to budding mathematician Jaime for checking my numbers, and very many thanks to Vaneet who bought  up the rear.
