London Bridge to Parliament Fields

Jamie led a popular ride and sent this brief report.

19 riders called in to Coal Drops Yard then summited Parliament Hill this morning. An eventful return trip slowed the ride as Jamie’s route planning app had a nervous breakdown for 20 mins. Thankfully Nigel was on hand to expertly navigate the crew across north London. Later we were confronted by the rider who’s dog had suffered a puncture. Many thanks to Mike, Nigel, Eduardo & Sally for backstopping & marshaling under fire.

Several nice comments on WhatsApp including from Sally: "Thanks for a great ride Jamie!  And for arranging the sunshine" and from Shelagh: Lovely ride and interesting route especially the route to Parliament Hill. Thanks Jamie et al.

Dulwich Murals

For whatever reason, no-one registered for the advertised “Exploring Dulwich + Murals” ride. Therefore cancelled late on the Thursday before. Then on Friday Bruce (the other one) contacted me and asked where it had gone. Since I fancied another look at the murals arranged to meet Bruce at the advertised time and do a shortened version focussng on the murals. Would always have gone to the start at the correct time as am not able to put cancellation information on all the places where rides are posted and people occasionlly do not register. Did not want anyone hanging about at Dulwich Park Cafe wondering where the ride had disappeared to!

We started with the two murals on the shed by the Bowling Green in the Park, then up to the mural on the corner of Barry Rd and Lordship Lane followed by the nearby mural at the corner ot Goodrich and Barry Roads. Next across to Blackwater road, off Lordship Lane, to view 3 small murals on the corner, another down a driveway and a third on the corner with Bassano St. Next stop the nearby roundabout where E Dulwich Rd meets Lordship Lane. There at the end ot Spurling Rd, is a huge black and white mural of 2 boxers in what look like Regency clothes. Finally the short distance to the junction of Grove Vale and Vale End where, rather tucked away, is “The Girl in a Window”, inspired by the painting of that name by Rembrandt that is in the Dulwich Picture Gallery. In fact all the murals are inspired by pictures in the Picture Gallery as they were mostly created in 2012-13 when the Dulwich Picture Gallery orgaised the “Dulwich Outdoor Gallery” project.

Three km, 12 murals.
