The Northern Line and Beyond
Storm Bert was forecast to cause heavy rain and high winds. Our short ride was cancelled but we decided to go ahead with the longer ride and judge by the actual conditions how far to ride. Here are Ride Leader Simon’s notes.
In the end we had 6 riders plus me. Jane and Joe left after Streatham Common Station. Mike Kearns, who was wearing a sweater, having forgotten his waterproof did the whole ride. [Note from Bruce; Mike is from the west of Ireland and completely water resistant!]. Also Maxine, Gloria and Dally (?spelling). Dally, who’d signed up late, hadn’t cycled before in London! He got a baptism of gusty winds, rain, and 37km !
Ride went well. No dramas. It’s more of a cycle trip than a sightseeing ride. Though there are the plane trees on Kennington Rd, the mosque in Morden, and the waterworks on Conyers Rd. Satnav said 36.5km, 2h 18 min moving time, Average 16km/h. Coffee at Tooting Common, about 3/4 of the way round. Weather improved and largely dry in second half. Nasty and gusty headwind for the first half.
No photos – not really the conditions. Our seasoned Ride Leader wants to repeat the ride next year. Hopefully get better weather.
