Canada Water to North Greenwich (O2)

First ride of 2024! 16 riders turned up for the 10am start in Deal Porter Square, next to Canada Water Library. With Bruce leading set off along Cycleway 14 to Russia Woodland and Greenland Dock. At South Dock continued on the Thames Path to the Cutty Sark at Greenwich. Weather good and progress steady. Continued on the Thames Path route to the O2 where we took a coffee break. Alas the Churros truck was not present. My pronunciation of Churros was correted by Gill – apparently should be “chooross”. When we stop at the Airstram caravan on the South Bank on the 13th will be careful to say the word correctly!

Lingered rather over coffee so set a brisker pace round the peninsula on the splendid cycle path then just before the Eco Park cut across past the Odeon to the cycle/ped bridge over the A102 multi-lane Blackwall Tunnel approach road. Then back to the Thmames path, through the Royal Naval College , past Cutty Sark again and on to Cycleway 4. This is still not complete at the Surrey Quays Gyratory (work going on – planned finish this year, hopefully). Turned off at Oxestalls Rd and slipped through to the Surrey Canal Linear Park. At this point we had a puncture. Gave us time to view the amazing 3D tiled mural of a car and a humanoid figure. Pumping up the tyre did not work so, as we were shortly to ride past Decathlon, Gill struggled on and headed in to seek help (NB Post on WhatsApp post shows damaged tyre with “all done” comment). Back a few minutes late just after 12.30. This route never disappoints – another enjoyable ride.
