Views from South

Report by Ride Leader Simon S.

Five riders were enticed by the promise of some of the best views in London, and were not deterred by the mention of hills. It started warm and ended hot, and the views did not disappoint.

First was Dawson’s Heights, tucked away off Lordship Lane and often overlooked: no-one else was there. It’s a relatively gentle climb to here, despite being the highest point of the ride. Then through Peckham Rye Park, stopping to admire the avenue of disease-resistant elms by Sexby Garden. It was a short ascent to Blythe Hill Fields, with great views of Canary Wharf, Lewisham and much of central London. In Ladywell Fields, we paused to admire the famous Lewisham Dutch Elm by the Ravensbourne River. Service was slow at the Hope Cafe nearby and we dawdled and chatted.

After a whizz through Brookmill Park, we tackled the climb to Telegraph Hill. Everyone made it to the top without too much trouble, and we were rewarded again with great views. An easy ride back, past Nunhead Cemetery, Nunhead Green, and Rye Lane. All agreed it was a fun ride, to be repeated.
