London Bridge to Camden Lock
9 riders, very rainy forecast but actually hardly any rain. Amanda leading. Notes from Bruce.
Slightly earlier than usual 9.30 start meant not too many tourists out yet. Able to ride through Borough Market, along section of South Bank and over Westminster Bricge without continually dodging pedestrians. Amanda’s usual route past the horses at Horse Gurds (bit of walking here) on to the Mall. This was free of motor traffic and splendid with South Korean Flags – must be a State Visit going on. Followed cycle lights across Marble Arch – slow, but it works and feels safe. Baker street although busy is OK for cycling. Already a queue at 221B for Sherlock Holnmes Museum. Into Regents Park and round to narrow path down to towpath on Regents Canal. Not much to be seen in the Zoo and soon at our destination, Camden Lock. The visitors were already here in numbers – although maybe not quite so many as on recent occasions. Coffe time then back via bit more towpath (now rather busy, problems at the narrow stretches under bridges, not sure I would use this…). Redeveloped Kings Cross not so busy. Did usual loop of Gasometer Park and kept moving to Cycleway 6, St Pauls, Cycleway 3, Tower Hill, Tower Bridge and back to the start at the Needle pretty much on time at 1pm. Terrific route with so much to see.
