Henry Moore Sculptures Ride

Devised by Jane, we restircted numbers on this ride to make it easier for riders to hear about the various statues. The morning of Dec 31st was wet. Have nothing but respect for Jane and the riders for heading off in the rain and looking at sculptures. Here is Jane’s short report.

9 riders plus leader set off from Archbishop’s Park, in persistent drizzle, for a cycle tour of 8 Henry Moore sculptures. Fortunately, everyone was dressed appropriately for the worsening weather conditions and confirmed that they were happy to stop at each site to hear some brief details about the works, rather than just cycling along the planned route (and getting it all over with!)

Drizzle had turned to quite heavy rain by the time we reached the Three Standing Figures at Battersea Park, where several people (sensibly) decided to head for home. After a restorative break in the Pear Tree Café we headed for our final stop, Two-piece Reclining Figure No.3, which has resided in the middle of the Brandon Estate, behind Kennington Park since1962. At this point my route map and notes had become papier mâché.

All in all, it was absolutely miserable and three cheers for everyone who came along on the day – there is another Henry Moore in Greenwich park, perhaps we will add it to the route and go there in sunshine sometime!

Thank you to Simon S for being back marker and taking photos and to Anne for bringing mince pies.
