This ride, devised by Harry Clark for Healthy Rides in 2018 and 19, visits locations associated with Charlie Chaplin’s early years when he lived in Walworth and Kennington. It is a 10 mile route with 11 stops. No coffee stop as need to finish sharp at noon. Bruce leading. Start/finish in Peckham Square with usual 10am start. First stop East Lane where Charlie was born, then Barlow St where he lived and St Johns Church where his parents married. On to West Squ, another place Charle lived, then the Imperial Was Museum, which was Bethlem Hospital where his mother was a patient. Into Kennington to the Three Stags pub, frequented by Charlie’s father, followed by the Lambeth Workhouse, now the Cinema Museum, with which Charie was well acquainted. Finally 3 more places where Charlie lived and another popular pub. Harry’s summary of Charlie’s early life and other information and his annotated list of the locations is here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Charlie-Chaplin-PDF-2019_06_27-21_53_24-UTC.pdf). Some photos and other info are in the ride report from 2019 (https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/healthy-ride-reports-2019/charlie-chaplin-ride-2019/).
