Peckham to Westminster and Camden Globes

Edited version of report by Ride Leader Philippa on the Facebook group, https://www.facebook.com/groups/553896211918871/permalink/1157526014889218/

Great turnout on a lovely day for a ride from Peckham to view the Camden and Westminster “The World Reimagined” globes marking Black history in the UK and the transatlantic slave trade. Each globe painted by a British black artist with their own interpretation of the theme.

We crossed Waterloo Bridge to Covent Garden to find two more globes there with one in Neal Street then on to Lincolns Inn Fields. A while spent here whilst we located some riders who had gone astray. Then off to King’s Cross via a globe at Brunswick Square Gardens. Next was at Goldington Crescent Gardens then one at Mornington Crescent. We then looped back to St Pancras Gardens and on to our cafe stop at Camley Street Natural Park. Coffee and delicious bagels very welcome in a lovely location by the canal.

Headed back via C6 finding our last globe in St Pancras Station before making our way back to Peckham via Blackfriars Bridge and C10. Lovely day to be out on our bikes exploring London! Thanks to all who joined the ride! Sadly the globes are all due to be moved on at the end of the month so good to view this trail today.

London Bridge to Parliament Hill

14 riders with Bruce leading on a really nice day weatherwise. Departed from the Southwark Needle on London Bridge and rode across the City passing St Pauls and joining Cycleway 6 and following this (mostly) to Kings Cross (Granary Square). Next across the canal to St Pancras Cemetery. Searched for the tree surrounded by gravestones thought to have been arranged by Thomas Hardy when he worked there (presumably when a starving wanabee author). Did find such a tree, but not like the picture. Maybe the original tree died and they had to rearrange things with a new tree.  Continued on roads to Parliament Hill Fields where we stopped for coffee. Some of us climbed the hill, but ashamed to say, not all. Views a bit hazy.

One rider discovered a flat tyre after coffee. Bit of a delay but Mike managed to make is spray can work and the tyre stayed up well. Return route passed the Roundhouse at Chalk Farm, then we rode to Primrose Hill. Due to delay with the puncture gave climbing Primrose Hill a miss and continued straight on to Regents Park. From there full speed across Bloomsbury, past UCL and the British Museum and on to the Cycleway along the Embankment. Finally looped past the Monument before crossing back over London Bridge only about 15 min late. Many thanks to Mike for back-marking.
