Dulwich to Vauxhall Bridge via the River Effra Valley

A flat route from Dulwich following the River Effra. The Effra is one of London’s “Lost Rivers”, small rivers that have disappeared into underground pipes. Starting 10am from Dulwich Park Café we will first visit Belair Park where the Effra is visible above ground. Next quiet streets to Brockwell Park, exit on to Brixton Water Lane, then take Effra Road to Brixton Central.  Long run down Brixton Rd (good bus lanes) to the Oval where we join Cycleway 5 to the Isle of Effra, next to Vauxhall Bridge.  This is a new open space left following the Tideway Tunnel interception of the Effra and diverting it into the Supersewer. Return past the American Embassy and the Sky Pool, then a new route to Glenelg Rd where there is a large mural imagining the Effra.  Finally across to Brockwell Park and back streets to Dulwich.  Expect to be back around 12.30. allowing time for a coffee stop. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe. Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  Same for “adults at risk”.  If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place.
