Ride 2. Epping Forest Ramble

Report from Ride Leader Owen.
The weather was cloudy and fortunately we did not have rain. Geraldine front tyre had low pressure and we stopped to get her tyre pumped halfway through the ride. She did not have further issues with her tyres until after the end of the ride. We arrived at the Epping Forest Visitor’s Centre and Queen Elizabeth hunting lodge before their opening times and we decided not to wait for it to open. After looking around the outside we carried on with the ride. We rode around Connaught Waters before heading to Epping Signal museum. We were given a tour of the museum with guides explaining the exhibits. I strictly said to the management of the museum which I know well from previous visits I wanted the tour to take no longer than half an hour. In the end I think the tour lasted an hour. The staff at the museum, all volunteers are just very passionate about trains.

We then cycled to the Kings Oak pub at High Beech for coffee break before cycling back to Chingford station where the ride finished and everyone went their separate ways.
I found out since Geraldine bumped into Siew Ling from our Southwark cycling group in Chingford after our Epping ride and the two of them decided to cycle home together from Chingford crossing the Silverton tunnel. Geraldine found out she got a puncture in her back wheel and called her partner who came and took her bike home. Geraldine herself walked home from Greenwich Peninsula as she said it was quicker to walk than to wait for public transport. If it wasn’t for Geraldine unfortunate puncture after the Epping Forest Ramble I would have said the day went very well. It was certainly eventful!
