Greenwich to Lesnes Abbey

Report from Ride LEader Mike K. “11 riders set off in the rain, but soon we had sunshine. Stopped to admire the Greek statues past the O2. Then on to Gallions Reach, to the site of the sinking of Princess Alice Pleasure Boat. This was the biggest tragedy on the Thames with the loss of 700 – 900 lives. Then on to the Green Chain Path, where we took more photos of the murals and the giant dog. Then we rode on to Lesnes Abby for coffee. Returned to the Cutty Sark via the Ridge Way and the Thames Path”

Burgess Park to Clapham Common

Damp morning with just 5 riders in Burgess Park for the ride. Started across the park and up to Denmark hill and Ruskin Park. By now brightening up a bit as we cimbed to the top of the park to admre the view across west London. Next down to Herne Hill and Brockwell Park where we rode along the bottom path past the Lido. From there on streets to Brixton Mill. Always an amazing sight – a large tower mill complete with sails in the middle of streets. Moving on via the LCN25 route to Clapham Common where we had a coffee break at the Pear Tree Cafe next to the Bandstand. Starting the return it is important to choose the correct path (there are 6 radiating out from the bandstand). After some debate and consulting Google Maps we managed to get the path we needed to cross the Common passing the boating pond to Cycleway 5 (Bromells Rd). This is a quiet route but we soon left it to join Clapham High St (busy A3) for a very short stretch. We then had to carefully make the right turn near Clapham North Station to reach Landor Rd. Followed this, crossed Stockwell Rd, then Sidney Rd and Robarts St to Brisxton Rd. Crossed this at the lights and headed for Myatts fields. This is a route ride leader Bruce knows well. But somehow managed to miss Myatts so dubled back and just peeped into the east corner. More mostly quiet streets to Burgess Park, getting there just after the planned end time of 12.30. With a small group a relaxing ride with some sunshine by the finish. Route at https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=19bUydVAcEI7OZJ3gCB-R9HQ1IA0BRf4&usp=sharing.
