Ride 1. Big Half

Simon K. leading, 8 riders.

Ride 2. North London Parks

John S. leading from Dulwich Park. 17 riders

Here is John’s report: “What weather! Warm and sunny, perfect for cycling. Off we set shortly after 10am from London Bridge, a group of seventeen. First to Finsbury Square, and on to Bunhill Row, pausing at the old graveyard to pay our respects to John Bunyan, Daniel Defoe and William Blake …and then up to Shepherdess Walk, where we veered off into New North Road, heading on a long climb to the Drayton Park crossroads, and so to Finsbury Park. There we stopped.

A leisurely coffee break for half an hour, and then our long downhill run across the parks: Clissold Park, Hackney Downs, and Well Street Common leading into Victoria Park. We proceeded gently, with a few pauses for stories: how Clissold Park got its name, the great Hackney Downs Riots, and more … and we were still on schedule. We came down along the Regent’s Canal to Limehouse Basin, and took the easy way back from there, following the CS3 cycleway to the Tower and then heading directly through to London Bridge, where we arrived at 1.30pm. A nice pleasant Saturday outing!

Thank you to Jean, our back-marker, and to Jamie who marshalled. “
