7 Finest Views of SE London

Group at The Point, Blackheath with Central London skyline in the background.

12 riders joined Jamie for a repeat of his 7 Views ride from Peckham. Uneventful ride to Telegraph Hill, Hilly Fields and up on to Blackheath to the excellent but little known Point viewpoint with its panoramic view of the City skyline. Finally to Greenwich Park and the series of viewpoints along the escarpment. Approaching the final viewpoint (the Queens viewpoint on the east side of the park) they were stoppped by 2 Parks Policemen and informed they were on a no cycling path. A “dscussion” ensued. No Cycling signs were not on the path. The police threatened £60 fines. In the end no fines were issued but several cyclists had their names and addresses taken. Their details would apparently be kept on a list for 3 yars and if they were caught again there would be a fine. Jamie and the others were distinctly unimpressed by the priorities of the offiers nvolved. But in a way it just reflects a very bad situation where the Royal Parks management appear to actively discourage cycling. After this incident the riders set off back to Peckham via New Cross. “Brilliant ride, and perfect pace” said Gill on WhatsApp.
