Notes from Ride leader Werner on his annual 26th December ride
Weather very nice – maybe not quite 8 degrees. Although one rider
dashed off home at the finish because she was freezing. 17 of us started, including at least one unregistered: Helen, who had joined me onTooley St on my way to the start.
Riders seemed very happy and most of them hadn’t seen those bits of
the City we visited before. I felt slightly guilty, we got back 5 minutes early [Not to worry, Bruce].
I should have done a short loop around St Mary-le-Bow as padding. I
had prepared a crossing of the Fleet and detour via Middle Temple (it
was even open yesterday) but checked when we got to Smithfield and decided
it didn’t fit in. As I heard from some that they didn’t know the
market when we turned from St John’s Gate to Charterhouse I looped
through it as an extra. One rider got a tourist to take a photo of us
in front of the Leadenhall Market Christmas tree.
Some comments on WhatsApp (The Vulnerables). “Thanks Werner. How easy it was for us to cycle down those little lanes” (Shelagh). “A lovely and interesting ride thanks Werner” (Mavash)
