Riding the SuperSewer

Please register for rides on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers, link:  https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/riding-the-supersewer-with-southwark-cycists-tickets-1998670138186?aff=oddtdtcreator

All day 41 mile circuit following the now complete SuperSewer (Thames Tideway Tunnel, map and info here) looking at the many legacy projects and a few incidental events. Weeks of research by Ride Leader Werner have now found the ideal route!

Start 9am, London Bridge (Needle). Begins with a ride to Acton Storm Tanks where the SuperSewer begins. On the way will pass though Notting Hill where preparations for the big Parade will be visible.  Possible to join the ride at Acton. Be there before 10.30 and wait at the Canham Road entrance. If meeting there indicate this on the registration form and we will send you a number to message in case of problems. From Acton will follow line of the tunnel to the Thames at Hammersmith with probable coffee break at the Riverside Studios. Continue along the Thames on the north bank stopping at various Tideway related sites. Then cross Albert Bridge (now traffic free) to Battersea Park. Possible lunch stop here, ca 12.45. Continue on south side to the tiny new “Effra Island” next to Vauxhall Bridge then cross back over Westminster Bridge. Alternative lunch stop on the South Bank ca 1.15.  Route continues to the King Edward Memorial Park in Wapping. Here the park has been expended to include the new land created to provide space for the Tideway work (see https://www.tideway.london/locations/king-edward-memorial-park-foreshore/). We then head inland following the sewer to the amazing Victorian pumping station at Abbey Mills. This is where the new tunnel ends as it links to existing pipes to Becton Sewage Treatment Works. Finally we will ride back to the start at London Bridge arriving there very approximately at 3.30pm.

Come for all or part of the ride, and have a great Bank Hol outing. But remember bring snacks, water and puncture repair kit or spare inner tube and give your bike a thorough check.

General Information.

Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe.  If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. These rides are part of a regular programme of Saturday rides organised by Southwark Cyclists, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/.
