NOTE. Please register for rides on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers, link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/turner-250th-anniversary-ride-tickets-1335359719869

The artist JMW Turner was born in London in 1775. The 12 mile ride will visit places associated with Turner and the location of 3 pictures. Starting from Canada Water at 10am we head for Somerset House where he attended the Royal Academy Art School in his teens. Next the short distance to Turner’s birthplace in Maiden Lane, Covent Garden, passing on the way St Pauls Church where he was baptised. Then a ride to Oxford St followed by a long ride across London to Tate Britain on Millbank, Will take an approx. 30 min break at the Tate where coffee is available and there is a large wing devoted to Turner. Suitably refreshed, culturally and metabolically, our return will be via locations linked to 3 Turner paintings. We will pass Lambeth Palace, have a view of the Tower of London and end up at the Rotherhithe riverside where the Temeraire, subject of Turner’s most famous work, was broken up. From there a short ride back to Canada Water at around 1pm. Bruce leading. Route map at https://bit.ly/4lXFVbY.

Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe.  If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place.
