From Old Kent Road to Park Lane with everything in between (including going to Jail). This will be a 4 hour\, 40km\, ride and we will start at 9 am at the Southwark Needle on the south side of London Bridge. Route NOT in board order (Sorry – takes too long). Will cycle clockwise\, doing south of the river location Old Kent Road first\, then Blackfriars Bridge\, Trafalgar Square\, Park Lane\, Marylebone Station and back via the Angel. Lots of history and some fine views. 10am to 12.30pm. Start/finish Deal Porter Square\, opposite Canada Water Station\, SE16 7AR. Easy 11 mile ride using DLR to cross river at Greenwich (travel pass or equivalent needed) and returning over London Bridge.  Route includes Russia Woodland\, Greenland Dock\, Deptford Historic waterfront\, Narrow St (Wapping)\, Shadwell Basin\, Canal-side paths to St Katherines\, the Monument. Coffee stop on return leg (probably Bartons\, Dockhead). No hills\, mostly off road\, cycle lanes or quiet streets. Ed leading (for first time).  It will be possible to join the ride at Greenwich Station. Meet 10.25am outside the front of the station on Greenwich High Rd\, near the Novotel (not by the DLR entrance). Meet 10am at Southwark Needle\, south side of London Bridge\, close to the station. 22 mile\, estimated 3 hour\, ride with Jamie leading.  Route to Woolwich along the south side of the Thames.  Break at Woolwich for coffee. Then under river to Silver Town and Royal Docks and back up to Greenwich and Southwark Needle. A variation on a route we have used several times. Lots to see. Plan to be back at the Needle at 1pm or a little after.

Maybe – but trees\, we are realizing\, are not just a taken-for-granted background. They matter. They soak up CO2 and are good for our health.  Inspiration comes from a talk in 2021 to Better Streets Southwark by Paul Wood about Tree Talk and his amazing Tree Map. Route is based on Paul’s Great Trees of London Map (£8 from book shops).  We did this ride first in 2021\, see report.  Start is 9.30am from the Southwark Needle. Route an 11 mile circuit to 6 of the Great Trees. Route uses a mixture of paths and quiet streets\, just short stretches of busy road. Runs through Camberwell\, Peckham\, New Cross and Deptford.  Should end back at London Bridge at around midday. If you cannot make it\, please cancel so that someone else can take the place (How to cancel). \nVictoria Park is the oldest public park in London (opened 1845) and bigger than any of our Southwark Parks. Has a lake with fountain\, a pagoda and a bandstand where bands still play every Sunday. And it has some lovely wide paths\, perfect for shared riding and walking.  We will set out at 9.30 across London Bridge and follow mostly quiet streets and paths to ‘Vicky’ Park. Then east to the nearby Olympic Park and probable coffee stop. Back by a different route\, reaching London Bridge about 1pm. Ride Leader Amanda.

Jean and John leading. Head up to Peckham Rye and via LCN 22 to Ladywell Fields. Join the off-road Waterlink Way (National Route 21) and follow Ravensbourne and Pool Rivers to Lower Sydenham and on quiet streets to Beckenham Place Park. Brief stop at cafe. Return by different route initially (quiet streets\, mostly Brookehouse Rd). Very short stretch of busy road at Catford where we rejoin the outward route at Ladywell Fields. SUMMARY:Ride London Freecycle - Southwark Led Ride from Peckham
DESCRIPTION:The annual Ride London Freeecycle sees many Central London roads completely traffic free. Plus displays and Dr Bikes. This is an event for all cyclists\, young or old. There is always a great atmosphere as thousands of riders circulate the route. We are running our usual fully marshalled led ride. Start 10am from Peckham Rye Park and ending at Queen St\, near Mansion House. Ride takes about 45min. There will also be a led ride back at 3pm.
