SUMMARY:Peckham to Blackheath Loop - Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:NOTE. You must register on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers\, link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/peckham-to-blackheath-loop-southwark-healthy-ride-tickets-526056698747 \n10am start in Peckham Square (next to Peckham Library and Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre) for a 2 hour ride led by Bruce. Ride we have not done for a while. Good route for less confident cyclists – lots of off road path and most of the rest quiet streets. Outward route up to Telegraph Hill then down to Brookmill Park and a not too steep route up to Blackheath and Greenwich Park.  At Lewisham will make a small diversion to see how the new landscaping at the Ravensbourne/Quaggy confluence is coming along. Short stop at the entrance to Greenwich Park where there are loos. Return down through the park and along Cycleway10\, then Bridgehouse Meadows and Meeting House Lane back to Peckham Square. 10.5 miles.  Plenty of time for walking the short steep bits.  Route at https://goo.gl/itW2R4

You must register on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers\, link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/33-parks-and-ride-reverse-southwark-healthy-ride-tickets-526052887347 \nA bonanza exploration of 33 green spaces – six iconic parks (Burgess\, Kennington\, Clapham Common\, Brockwell\, Dulwich and Peckham Rye) and lots of hidden away green spaces. All within a loop of a 3km radius. Visiting Camberwell Submarine\, Van Gogh\, Brixton Windmill (plus two others)\, Royal Surrey Zoological Gardens (now defunct)\, and a near-miss prison visit as a bonus! Coffee stop in Dulwich Park (toilets). Easy riding on quiet roads and cycle routes\, and through some parks.  This is an approximate reverse of Simon’s ride on 21st Jan\, but it feels like a totally different ride.  Simon S leading. About 14 miles\, some gentle slopes\, 3 hours.\nStart Peckham Library at 10.00am – back by 1.00pm. \n \nGPX route file: ParksandRide(reverse)

Can also join ride at Cutty Sark\, next to Foot Tunnel; be there by 10.20.  Bruce Leading. Outward leg using the Thames path\, so lots of see through Deptford\, Greenwich and round to the O2.  Return will use the new segregated lanes along the A206/A200. So not so scenic\, but a good route to try. Coffee stop probably at Charlton shops on return leg.  This ride is nearly all off road or on segregated lanes. Also no hills. Makes it a good ride even for relatively inexperienced cyclists.  Route map at https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1cemvuJ4MjcXfvjD3pXXfIX0tWkAumIU&usp=sharing \nGPX file of route: Canada-Water-to-O2

SUMMARY:Burgess Park to Clapham Common - Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:NOTE 1. Please register on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers\, link < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/burgess-park-to-clapham-common-circular-cycle-ride-tickets-555556262737 > . If you cannot make it\, please cancel so that someone else can take the place (How to cancel). \nJane leading a route we last did in May 2016 (link to report). Burgess Park Cafe (Chumleigh St) to Clapham Common via quiet streets in Camberwell & Stockwell\, crossing some busy junctions with brief sections on main roads. Short stop (photos?) at the Bandstand. On the return journey we will pause to see the concrete reliefs created by Hungarian artist Laszlo Peri on the post war housing estates around Fentiman Road. All part of a campaign to promote public art during post-war redevelopment of the area. The reliefs of “Mother and Children Playing” and “Boys Playing Football” have Grade II listing by Historic England. We will press on to Waterloo Station to see his sculpture of The Sunbathers now restored and on display overlooking the main concourse. This was produced for the Festival of Britain site in 1951. It was subsequently”lost” until being rediscovered in 2016 chucked away in the back garden of the Clarendon Hotel on Blackheath. There was quite a bit of media coverage at the time of the rediscovery.  From Waterloo the ride continues via cycle routes around Elephant & Castle and Walworth Road back to Burgess Park. To fit everything in\, no coffee stop en route\, but we can have a coffee at the end of the ride. 11 miles. Route map at https://gb.mapometer.com/cycling/route_5431778.html

SUMMARY:London Bridge-Hyde Park Loop - Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:NOTE 1. Please register on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers\, link< https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/london-bridge-to-hyde-park-circular-cycle-ride-tickets-555527175737 >. If you cannot make it\, please cancel so that someone else can take the place (How to cancel). \nThere has been a decade or more of work to develop safe\, segregated cycle routes in London. What kind of possibilities has it opened up? I set out to look at Central London where most of the new cycleways are. Have stitched together a circular route that gets you around in reasonable comfort and certainly passes some interesting locations. \nStart 10am at London Bridge (next to Needle\, south side\, near Station). Cross and drop down to Cycleway 3\, a well-designed\, segregated route. Follow this along the embankment\, through Parliament Squ\, past Buck house and across Hyde Park. If time a diversion into Kensington Gdns and past the Albert Memorial. Continue over the Serpentine to Lancaster Gate. Abandon C3 here and stay in Hyde Park heading east for the return leg. Exit Hyde Park just before Marble Arch via the cycle crossing to Stanhope Pl\, then back streets (LCN5) to Crawford St where the route becomes Cycleway 27. C27 is a bit of a let-down; no segregation\, no protection at junctions. However it is a (nearly) straight route. At Gower St we leave C27 and use the segregated lanes on Torrington Place eastwards\, these not having a cycleway designation (LCN6). Keeping going east we join a second stretch of well designed route\, Cycleway 6 and turn south to and over Blackfriars Bridge. Last segment is on C14 most of the way to London Bridge. At an easy pace we can ride this loop in 3 hours including a coffee break. Bruce Leading\, 12-13 miles.  Route at https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1qkrX4KxPAZfk9xDVDZM5tWq_oaj4kBQ&usp=sharing
