SUMMARY:Free bike maintenance with hands-on tuition
DESCRIPTION:Run by Bruno on behalf of Southwark Cyclists in Camberwell Leisure Centre which has south-east London’s most memorable address\, Artichoke Place SE5 8TS (see pic). The leisure centre is friendly\, cheerful\, accessible and welcoming. Bruno and the boys are the same. Everyone is welcome and no one pays. \nThis is a drop-in not a course. You turn up with a problem and the guys fix it while showing you carefully what to do and helping you do it. What gets taught depends on what problems turn up. \nSouthwark Cyclists are the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign who campaign for safer cycling throughout London. We campaign for safer cycling in Southwark. To join us or ask a question email southwark@lcc.org.uk or tweet @southwarkcycle. Everything we do is free and open to all.

SUMMARY:Community Speed Watch
DESCRIPTION:Fed up with speeding? You can do something about it. Volunteer for Community Speedwatch. You can suggest times\, dates and locations. The community volunteer holds the speedgun and a PCSO writes down the numbers and makes of offending vehicles. Then he sends the details to TfL who sends owners cross letters. \nIf you think that that doesn’t sound tough enough then the Met agrees. Since seeing proof of speeding provided by the Community Speedwatch teams\, the Met has gone into the same line of business with a team of traffic policement equipped with legal-evidence level speedguns. Real tickets have been issued. \nTo join in email PCSO Kevin Phillips at kevin.j.phillips@met.police.uk

SUMMARY:community speedwatch (2)
DESCRIPTION:Don’t think we’re picking on Salter Road or anything. It’s just that our cycling volunteers specially object to speeding around here. The man with the gun for this second outing of the day on Salter Road will be Werner who runs some of our Saturday rides about Victorian engineers. \nThis is always a popular spot with the guys — lots of law-breaking\, as anyone who cycles through here can testify. It’s a mutual protection society. Kevin protects Werner from irate drivers and Werner protects Kevin from irate members of the public (who want him to do more). To join in\, mail Kevin at Kevin.j.Phillips@met.police.uk and/or read https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/66-in-a-20mph-zone/ for further useful information. \n

SUMMARY:Community Speed Watch
DESCRIPTION:The team will be at the junction of Croxted Road and the South Circular\, speedgun at the ready. The evidence of speeding that they provide has persuaded the Met to set its own speed traps. Volunteers can suggest dates\, times and locations to PCSO Kevin Phillips who will check their suitability (no speed humps\, no speed cameras). SUMMARY:Cancelled: Free bike maintenance with hands-on tuition
DESCRIPTION:This event has been cancelled. \nThis is a drop-in not a course so what gets taught is pretty random. You bring the problems and the guys teach you how to fix them. This is the place to bring the bike covered in spiders which you found in your Mam’s shed. They also do less long term stuff like “How do I pump up these tyres?” (a question which puzzled me for a long time) and “Why does my chain keep coming off?” (it’s stretched and you need a new one and possibly a new set of cogs and sprockets) \nIt all takes place in the warm inside Camberwell Leisure Centre in Artichoke Place SE5 8TS. The leisure centre is very friendly with nice staff and a cafe. Bliss. \nThe sessions are run by Bruno on behalf of Southwark Cyclists. We are the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign which campaigns for safer cycling in London. We campaign for safer cycling in Southwark. If you want to join in you can mail us at southwark@lcc.org.uk or tweet @southwarkcycle. Everything we do is free and as welcoming as we can make it. \n\n\n\n+ GOOGLE CALENDAR+ ICAL EXPORT

SUMMARY:Southwark Climate Emergency conference (postponed)
DESCRIPTION:Due to fears over Coronavirus this conference has been postponed. No new date set.  \nSouthwark Council is holding a conference ‘Tackling the Climate Emergency’ today. This presents a real opportunity for residents\, community and environmental groups and stakeholders to get involved and contribute their feedback to the Council’s climate strategy while it is still at the draft stage. \nWe will be there. The conference will be at the William Booth Memorial College in Champion Park SE5 8BQ from 9.30-2.30 (includes lunch). The college is directly opposite Denmark Hill station and it’s not as grim as the picture makes it appear. This is hoped to be the first in a series of annual conferences to consider how to make the council be more environmentally friendly and the residents (us) as green as we would like to  be.

SUMMARY:Bring 'n Fix It in Walworth (cancelled)
DESCRIPTION:Just what it says really. We have a great mechanic at this Bring ‘n Fix it session at the Walworth Living Room (see pic). Bring a bike (any condition) and they will help you get it into better shape. There are guys fixing lots of other things too so you can bring those along as well. Despite the attractive-looking playground in the pic\, this session is highly likely to be indoors.

SUMMARY:Community Speed Watch (cancelled)
DESCRIPTION:Southwark Cyclist volunteer Bob Eva and PCSO Kevin Phillips will be at the junction of Village Way and Half Moon Lane\, trusty speedgun at the ready. This is a good spot for catching speeders\, I’m told. The community volunteer wields the gun and Kevin writes down the numbers and makes of the speeders. Then he sends the info plus names and addresses to TfL which sends out rude letters. It’s fun and you can join in. Email Kevin at kevin.j.phillips@met.police.uk and he will sign you up to a date and location of your choice. He’s very affable but his disapproval of bad driving is strong.
