SUMMARY:Freecycle ride to central London
DESCRIPTION:Southwark Cyclists will be leading a feeder ride to the Prudential Ride London event.  There will also be a led return.  Ride will be fully marshalled and suitable for all cyclists of any age. If you want to help you can volunteer here:  https://lcc.org.uk/articles/volunteer-as-a-lcc-ride-marshal-at-freecycle-2019 and there will be free training on July 20th. \nThe starting place is at the Cafe on the Rye in the middle of Peckham Rye Park for a 10am start. The cafe looks like this: \n \nThe cafe is actually on Strakers Road which used to be a road through the park. The map is distinctly unhelpful. I think the picture shows bits of the car park which used to be beside the cafe. where there is now a rather splendid playground. \nWe will meet a group from the north of the borough at Burgess Park Cafe (which is 200 Albany Road if you want to look at it on a google map) at 10.30am. A group from Crystal Palace are also expected to join us here and then we will all go on together to Southwark Bridge. \nAfter that it’s every man\, woman and child for themselves. The return ride from Southwark Bridge at 3pm is not at all compulsory but if you want to ride back with us as well then details will be finalised on arrival. \nRoute: https://cycle.travel/map/journey/110158\nStart point: Strakers Road\, Peckham Rye Park\, Peckham SE15 3UA\nEnd point: Southwark Bridge\nStart time: 10:00\nDistance: Five miles\nReturn ride start point: Southwark Bridge\nReturn ride start time: 15:00 \nMore info about the Freecycle is here: https://www.prudentialridelondon.co.uk/events/freecycle/ including a map of exactly which bits of central London are covered. We are part of the London cycling campaign but you don’t have to be to join. Everything we do is free and everyone is welcome

SUMMARY:Free bike maintenance with hands-on tuition
DESCRIPTION:If it’s been a few weeks since you came\, you need to know that the venue has changed. All those who came to the last one already know. It’s now in the cheerful and friendly Camberwell Leisure Centre in wonderfully named Artichoke Place SE5 8TS. The photo makes it look a bit grim but it’s a delightful building with cafe\, good staff and\, now\, great bike fixing. \nStill free and everyone welcome. It’s not a course\, it’s a drop-in (see the earlier remarks about not attending every week). What gets taught depends on what problems you bring in. The guys that do it are well known greats from our summer-time Dr Bikes at Peckham Arch and on Quietway 1. They fix your bike and at the same time show you what to do and how you might do it yourself. The whole shebang is free\, cheerful and open to anyone. No ID checks. You need to bring a bike to get full benefit but you are welcome to come without one and watch. \nFor more info about this and future events\, email southwark@lcc.org.uk though that can be slow\, keep an eye on @southwarkcycle or text 07842 640 207. We are a borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign https://lcc.org.uk and everything we do is free and open to all.

SUMMARY:Dr Bike under Peckham Arch
DESCRIPTION:The usual wonderful set of guys fixing bikes and dispensing wise advice — mostly about the need to clean your chain. The effect of nagging is such that after five years of hearing them say this I have started doing it every now and again. \nThey are cheerful\, helpful\, knowledgeable and have lots of tools. They will be under or near Peckham Arch which is the big arch-shaped object at the south end of Surrey Canal Path or the north end of Rye Lane (see pic). \nDrop by and get them working for you. For more info or to join in email southwark@lcc.org.uk (slow method) or tweet @southwarkcycle. If they do their usual great job on your bike you could tweet that too.

SUMMARY:Community Speedwatch
DESCRIPTION:Our volunteers will be packing their speedguns in Salter Road with the support of PCSO Kevin Phillips (see pic). The speed to beat is 66mph in a 20mph. Miscreants get fierce letters from the Met. If that attracts you mail Kevin on Kevin.J.Phillips@met.police.uk and volunteer.

SUMMARY:Healthy Rides Picnic with Bexley Cyclists and others
DESCRIPTION:Meet in Greenwich Park at the bandstand\, up the hill\, bit to the east of observatory buildings\,  Lat\, Long 51.476547\, 0.002763.  From about 12 noon.  Most people will ride (see below) but non-riders are also welcome. \nThe ride to picnic with Bexley Cyclists starts at 10am in Dulwich Park (Dulwich Clock Cafe\, SE21 7BQ) and picks up riders in Peckham (10.30\, Peckham Square by Peckham Library\, SE15 5JR) and at Canada Water Library (11am\, Deal Porter Square\, opposite Canada Water Station). Meet-up in Greenwich Park is at the bandstand\, up the hill\, bit to the east of observatory buildings\,  Lat\, Long 51.476547\, 0.002763.  Route at http://tiny.cc/683raz   Aiming to reach there about 12 noon. \nWe all (or the more mature of us) sit down to eat (so remember to bring food and drink)\, but not before some games.  Maybe a slow cycling “race”\, longest track stand\, musical bikes\, who knows what else. \nWe are aiming to beat the turnout in 2018 when we held the picnic at the Thames Barrier and more than 60 people came (the photo shows some of them).  An amazing time was had by all. Last year’s report is here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/66-healthy-riders-on-picnic-ride/ — loads of photos and there’s a video too. Book the date – August 17th – and come along. \n

SUMMARY:Dr Bike on Cycleway 1 (as we are supposed to call it now)
DESCRIPTION:Renaming stuff is cheaper than building it\, we can all agree. Cycleway 1 aka Quietway one is south-east London’s safest and most direct route to the centre (and back). Our guys are will be at the Dunton Road/Lynton Road crossroads. That’s the one with advance release lights on a three-way junction.   \nOur guys will be fixing bikes for all-comers. This service is free and enthusiastic. The bigger your problem the happier they are. They carry small parts like cables but not big ones like wheels. For bike reconstruction you will be referred onto our (also free) bike maintenance and tuition service which runs indoors all year round (see September 3rd)
