SUMMARY:Bike maintenance with hands-on tuition
DESCRIPTION:Free and everyone welcome. It’s not a course\, it’s a drop-in.. What gets taught depends on what problems you bring in. The guys that do it are well known greats from our summer-time Dr Bikes at Peckham Arch and on Quietway 1. These evening bike-fixing sessions are a joint venture between Southwark Cyclists and Lettsom Tenants & Residents Association and are held in the TRA hall. That’s not a super-easy thing to find so a useful picture of the hall is included. Vestry Road\, up the hill passed the shops and down an alley on your left is the best verbal description I’ve been given. See below for full address. The whole shebang is free\, cheerful and open to anyone. No ID checks. You need to bring a bike to get full benefit. For more info email southwark@lcc.org.uk though that can be slow\, keep an eye on @southwarkcycle or text 07842 640 207.

SUMMARY:monthly meeting
DESCRIPTION:At our not-so-new venue at 41 Grosvenor Park SE5 0NH (see picture above). It’s much more respectable than it looks. Coming from Burgess Park\, cross Camberwell New Road and proceed in an westerly direction along Urlwin Street\, under the railway bridges\, left at the end and straight on into the cul-de-sac in front of you. Very respectable. Look carefully\, no 41 is slightly less respectable and belongs to the tenants association. That’s the place. No bike parking. Try the railings. \n \nThe alternative approach is via Addington Square\, across to Bethwin Street\, right into Grosvenor Terrace\, immediately right into Grosvenor Park \n Look for the cul-de-sac on your right at the end. \nWe still haven’t found a pub. Bring pub radar.  If you get lost shout loudly and someone will walk out and wave their arms around.

SUMMARY:Tour de Rotherhithe 2019 - Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:Rotherhithe is blessed with lots of off road paths beside docks\, along the Thames\, through parks and along canals.  It is also completely flat.  So ideal for an easy-paced\, gentle ride.  Route meanders across to Southwark Park then heads to the Salter Statues on the river.  A 4km stretch along the Thames Path as far as Deptford Strand then inland to the Surrey Canal Linear Park and on to South Dock and Greenland Dock. Next an exploration of Russia Woodland ending at Stave Hill. Stop to climb the hill and take in the view. Back to Canada water via Surrey Water.\nThis is really interesting ride with lots to see and is a good ride for less experienced cyclists as so much is traffic free.\nLast did this ride June 10th\, 2917\, see report. SUMMARY:Bazalgette 1 - Easter Saturday Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:Werner has planned a Bazalgette-themed ride. It was 200 years from Joseph Bazalgette’s birth on March 28th. A little late\, we plan to celebrate with a ride around sights associated with the great engineer.  Bound to include the memorial on Victoria Embankment and the blue plaque in St Johns Wood. Also a ride past the Institute of Civil Engineers\, whose president he was.   \nMore notes on route: out over Waterloo Bridge; CS3 on top of Victoria Embankment and Bazalgette Memorial\, St Margaret’s Westminster where he got married; Institute of Civil Engineers in Gt George St\, where he was president (report at time:  “appropriately his presidential address discussed ‘those engineering works which promote the health and comfort of the inhabitants of large cities\, and by which human life may be preserved and prolonged'” – sounds like he was a supporter of bike lanes; Hyde Park; A bit of Q12; Pushing the boundary into St John’s Wood and a look at his blue plaque; Stop in Regent’s Park; Dysfunctional pump in Broad(wick) St and Golden Square; Probably back over London Bridge. \nWill be the usual easy-paced ride.  Everyone welcome\, just turn up with your bike\, and note that all our rides are free. \nNB we are also doing a longer Bazalgette 2 ride on April 22nd\, Easter Monday.  Check the Events listing for details.

SUMMARY:community speedwatch
DESCRIPTION:Southwark Cyclist volunteer and PCSO Kevin Phillips will be at the junction of Southwark Bridge Road and Sawyer St. The evidence they collect of illegal speeding (no\, I don’t believe it either) is persuading the Met to bring out it’s weapons-grade speed guns and issue fines. It’s a worthwhile cause. To join in email kevin.j.phillips@met.police.uk (pic above). An affable guy who doesn’t like speeding.
