SUMMARY:Dr Bike under Peckham Arch
DESCRIPTION:I know he looks a bit mad but he’s very good with bikes. Assuming Peckham Arch is still sheltering all-comers\, Dr Bike will be under the Arch indexing gears\, pumping up tyres\, tightening brakes and giving wise advice on filthy chains (“clean it” would be a printable precis) \nNothing costs anything. The wise advice is naturally free. One professional mechanic and two first-class amateurs. Maps\, chat\, cycling gossip. I’m afraid there is sometimes a queue but they clear it quickly. \nThere must be more to it than that. Er\, no there isn’t. We don’t make a profit. You don’t have to join anything\, sign anything or do anything more than let the goodwill roll over you. Wave as you go by.

SUMMARY:Dulwich Park to Tooting Bec Common – Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:Usual easy-paced ride on mostly quiet streets and some park paths. A few small hills but nothing serious.  Start by heading via Herne Hill to Brockwell Park. Round the north and west sides to the Tulse Hill Estate exit and from there lots of street cycling to Emmanuel Rd and the north side of Tooting Bec Common.  Follow Emmanuel Rd to the west end of the Common\, then nice path down the west side past the Café and the lake. At Tooting Bec Rd loo break at the Athletics Track\, then east along Tooting Bec Rd and a quick look at the Lido (due to open on the 5th\, but sorry\, no time for a swim).  Route home again mostly quiet streets crossing Streatham High Rd and passing close to Tulse Hill Station.  Last stretch along South Circular but not as bad as it sounds as there is a cycle lane or a shared use pavement for most of this stretch.  If time\, may vary this last stretch\, e.g. by visiting Bel Air Park. Total length 9 miles.  Route at https://goo.gl/eobvjv

SUMMARY:Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:At our not-so-new venue at 41 Grosvenor Park SE5 0NH (see picture below). It’s much more respectable than it looks. Coming from Burgess Park\, cross Camberwell New Road and proceed in an westerly direction along Urlwin Street\, under the railway bridges\, left at the end and straight on into the cul-de-sac in front of you. Very respectable. Look carefully\, no 41 is slightly less respectable and belongs to the tenants association. That’s the place. No bike parking. Try the railings. \n \nThe alternative approach is via Addington Square\, across to Bethwin Street\, right into Grosvenor Terrace\, immediately right into Grosvenor Park \n Look for the cul-de-sac on your right at the end. \nWe still haven’t found a pub. Bring pub radar.  If you get lost phone 07842 640 207 and I will walk out and wave my arms around.

Suitable for all types of cyclist.   Start/finish Deal Porter Square\, next to Canada Water Library and opposite CW Station\, SE16 7AR \nRiders did so well climbing Hilly Fields on a recent ride\, decided to do it again from the other direction. SUMMARY:Bike train via Quietway 1
DESCRIPTION:Quietway 1. London’s best quietway. The best. The only. And very easy from Peckham. TfL don’t approve of signposting how to get to Quietways (don’t ask) so we can’t have any signs pointing the way. But you can come with us and we’ll show you. \nThe Bike Train leaves Nunhead station at 7.45am \, and leaves the Peckham Rye station at 7.55am. Departures are from the bike stands behind McDonalds on the north side of the station. We all know where McDonalds is even if we don’t go there. \nThen full steam to Quietway 1 and full steam to Blackfriars Bridge by 8.30am. From there protected lanes lead north towards Kings Cross\, west towards Westminster and east towards Tower Bridge. The most dangerous bit of your ride will be Rye Lane. \nReturn rides arranged on request. The train is led by me and I’m 65. My pace is sedate. I haven’t outpaced anyone for a long time. it’s all free. There is no catch. It’s helpful if you text me to say you are coming: 07842 640 207 or email southwark@lcc.org.uk for more info. \nWe are the Southwark branch of the London Cycling Campaign. The LCC campaigns for safer\, more enjoyable cycling in London. What could be better than that.

SUMMARY:Dr Bike on QW1
DESCRIPTION:Put these tools to work on your bike. This is just part of the kit Charlie cycles around with. Charlie is fit\, is Charlie. He’s the best pro-mechanic we know and he appears with two top quality amateurs. When they are baffled\, I’m afraid they pass you on to the queue for Charlie but then you will definitely get the best advice cycling experience and hard-earned knowledge can provide. \nWith his assistants Charlie can index your gears\, tighten your brakes\, diagnose that squeak and give advice on treatment for your hub gears and bottom bracket. The supporting cast keeps the queue in order (it doesn’t last long but it does build up sometimes) and dispense maps\, gossip and cheerful chat. \nEverything is free. We don’t carry parts so if you know (or suspect) that you need new brake blocks or cables it’s best to bring them. There are no restrictions. You don’t have to join anything or sign anything. Occasionally people ask what the catch is. We’re still working that out. See you there.

SUMMARY:Greewich to Cody Dock - Healthy Ride +
DESCRIPTION:Meet at Greenwich Foot Tunnel entrance\, next to Cutty Sark SE10 9HT.  Amanda is going to lead her great route to Cody Dock.  We did this on Jan 20th but weather was awful and only a handful of riders turned up.  So here is another chance to ride this circuit – loads to see\, lots of off road.\nPlan is to ride clockwise starting through the tunnel\, then beside Millwall Docks\, across to Canning Town and thence to Cody Dock. Stop there for a coffee and a look around (look at photos from ride on April 29th\, 2017\, to get an idea).  From Cody Dock\, return is by a long swing up to 3 Mills on the Lee\, pick up the Greenway to Becton\, then south to the Royal Docks (past City Airport) and North Woolwich.  Cross river either by tunnel or\, if possible\, Ferry and home along the south side Thames path past the Flood Barrier and the O2.  Image of route attached below.  About 17 miles and flat\, so over 3.5 hours\, a nice easy pace.\nPart of our regular Saturday morning Healthy Rides. For more information see www.healthyrider.weebly.com\nImage from Strava of route:\nCody_20jan18PART_1516380786867_IMG_9890
