SUMMARY:Healthy Ride: Canada Water to North Greenwich
DESCRIPTION:Ride to the O2 at North Greenwich. Outward along the Thames Path as far as we can get in an hour. I think probably just past the O2\, maybe as far as the Ecology Park.  Return cutting across the peninsula to Greenwich\, then taking Q1 back to Surrey Canal Rd\, then the railway path route to Canada Water.  If we do it all\, 19km\, but pretty much completely flat. Route at https://goo.gl/d7Tr4C and as gpx at http://healthyrider.weebly.com/autumn_winter_16_17_rides.html

SUMMARY:Monthly Meeting: speaker Jin Lim Southwark Director of Public Health
DESCRIPTION:Cycling is good for everyone’s health even if you don’t cycle and it’s even better if you do. It’s not just good for the irritatingly self-righteous. It’s good for everyone and we want to help everyone try it out. \nThe acting Director of Public Health in Southwark Dr Jin Lim is coming to talk to us about cycling for health and (we hope) what we can all do to promote it. He’ll be first on the agenda at 6.30pm. Everyone is welcome to come and hear him. You don’t have to stay for the rest of the meeting. We understand. \nThis meeting is at our new venue at 41 Grosvenor Park SE5 0NH (see picture above. It’s much more respectable than it looks. Coming from Burgess Park\, cross Camberwell New Road and proceed proceed in an easterly direction along Urlwin Street\, under the railway bridges\, left at the end and straight on into the cul-de-sac in front of you. \nVery respectable. Look carefully\, no 41 is slightly less respectable and belongs to the tenants association. That’s the place. No bike parking. Try the railings. \n \nThe alternative approach is via Addington Square\, across to Bethwin Street\, left into Grosvenor Terrace\, immediately right into Grosvenor Park \n Look for the cul-de-sac on your right at the end. \nLast time I said that\, sadly\, there was no pub in the area. There is some dispute about this but I have to say I didn’t notice a pub. Bring pub radar.  If you get lost phone 07842 640 207 and I will walk out and wave my arms around. \n

SUMMARY:Bike Train to central London EARLIER START
DESCRIPTION:The award-winning Southwark Cyclists Bike Train runs again today. This (free!) service will run once a month till Spring. The arrival of Spring will be determined empirically. We will conduct a careful and thorough examination of the weather. Some arrangements have changed as a result of the Bike Train Survey which showed demand for an earlier start.. \n\n\nAn earlier start there therefore is. Fifteen minutes earlier. We start at 7.45 am from Nunhead Station and pick up riders from Peckham Rye station (from the bike stands behind McDonalds) at 7.55am. We are joined by riders from Denmark Hill who leave that station at 7.55am (from outside the cafe in Windsor Walk) and join the train in Burgess Park. \nWe cycle through two parks\, north along a traffic-calmed backstreet\, onto the pavement-cycling lanes along the New Kent Road\, around the Elephant and Castle bypass and then onto the lovely new TfL segregation all the way to Blackfriars. Arrival time approx 8.30am. On time every time. Fun and free. \nTo book your seat at Denmark Hill text Liz Eden on 07814 515 715. Don’t turn up without warning at Denmark Hill because this branch line will be demand-led (management speak for “may not run if there are no passengers”). For Peckham or Nunhead contact me on 07842 640 207 — or don’t book anything at all and just turn up. All welcome. Free. \nThe route is here: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1Pq8aj3Ylf1S9eg44QbGvAD4qSbM&ll=51.49922566210585%2C-0.0963249999999789&z=13 \nUpdate: Practice the route on a day out – with our guide to the history of the area! SUMMARY:Bessemer Grange school run to London Bridge
DESCRIPTION:The school is taking part in Sustrans Big Pedal week http://www.sustrans.org.uk/our-services/who-we-work/teachers/big-pedal. The Big Pedal is the UK’s largest inter-school cycling and scootering challenge. It inspires pupils\, staff and parents to choose two wheels for their journey to school. \nParents will cycle their children to school and then will cycle on themselves to London Bridge – or wherever they need to get to.  We will leave the school at 9hrs and expect to get to London Bridge  by 9.45 or sooner  depending on riders. \nContacts at the school Amy Foster and Henrietta Collier. Contacts at Southwark Cyclists Andy Cawdell on southwark@lcc.org.uk and Sally Eva on 07842 640 207
