SUMMARY:Healthy Ride\, Peckham to Rotherhithe
DESCRIPTION:Peckham to Canada Water and the Rotherhithe riverside \nSouthwark Cyclists Healthy Ride 4 Feb 2017. Flat ride with lots to see and plenty of nice off-road path.  Total distance 9 miles\, so a leisurely 2 hour ride.  Start with the preferred route between the 2 regular start points for Southwark Healthy Rides\, Peckham Square and Canada Water Library. Then a section using the excellent cycle paths on the Rotherhithe peninsula.  A stop is planned at the Sustrans Memorial Bench that commemorates Barry Mason\, the founder of the Southwark Healthy Rides.  Finally back via an alternative route from Rotherhithe to Peckham that uses sections of Quietway 1 and Nat Route 425.  Route at https://goo.gl/EikJ0i or find GPX file here

SUMMARY:Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Well none of us matter much of course but we’ll matter more if you come. This meeting is at our new venue at 41 Grosvenor Park SE5 0NH. Coming from Burgess Park\, cross Camberwell New Road and proceed proceed in an easterly direction along Urlwin Street\, under the railway bridges\, left at the end and straight on into the cul-de-sac in front of you. Very respectable. Look carefully\, no 41 is slightly less respectable and belongs to the tenants association. That’s the place. No bike parking. Try the railings. \nThe alternative approach is via Addington Square\, across to Bethwin Street\, left into Grosvenor Terrace\, immediately right into Grosvenor Park and look for the cul-de-sac on your right at the end. \nLast time I said that\, sadly\, there was no pub in the area. There is some dispute about this but I have to say I didn’t notice one. Bring pub radar.  If you get lost phone 07842 640 207 and I will walk out and wave my arms around. \n

SUMMARY:Canada Water to Blackheath Loop - Rotherhithe Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:Easy ride with mostly quiet roads and cycle paths. One steep hill up to Blackheath\, but short so easily walked. Outward route uses some of the Deptford paths and the stretch of Nat Route 21 through Brookmill Park. Return route crosses Greenwich Park\, then picks up Quietway 1 from its start at the Greenwich DLR station. If not too busy with street market\, will look in at the new Deptford Market Yard development and the refurbished station (nice lifts for disabled access\, and of course bikes). SUMMARY:Bike Train to Central London
DESCRIPTION:The award-winning Southwark Cyclists Bike Train runs again today. This (free!) service is running once a month till Spring. The arrival of Spring will be determined empirically. We will conduct a careful and thorough examination of the weather. Some arrangements have changed as a result of the Bike Train Survey which showed demand for an earlier start.. \n\n\nAn earlier start there therefore is. Fifteen minutes earlier. We start at 7.45 am from Nunhead Station and pick up riders from Peckham Rye station (from the bike stands behind McDonalds) at 7.55am. We are joined by riders from Denmark Hill who leave that station at 7.55am (from outside the cafe in Windsor Walk) and join the train in Burgess Park. \nWe cycle through two parks\, north along a traffic-calmed backstreet\, onto the pavement-cycling lanes along the New Kent Road\, around the Elephant and Castle bypass and then onto the lovely new TfL segregation all the way to Blackfriars. Arrival time approx 8.30am. On time every time. Fun and free. \nTo book your seat at Denmark Hill text Liz Eden on 07814 515 715. Don’t turn up without warning at Denmark Hill because this branch line will be demand-led (management speak for “may not run if there are no passengers”). For Peckham or Nunhead contact me on 07842 640 207 — or don’t book anything at all and just turn up. All welcome. Free. \nThe route is here: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1Pq8aj3Ylf1S9eg44QbGvAD4qSbM&ll=51.49830130383333%2C-0.0878830999999991&z=12 \nUpdate: Practice the route on a day out – with our guide to the history of the area! SUMMARY:Mardi Gras Bike Parade
DESCRIPTION:Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday or\, lapsing into English\, Shrove Tuesday. Your last chance to eat sugar\, butter\, eggs and flour for a month. For the first time it will be celebrated in Borough and Bankside with a Bike Parade. \nStarting at 1pm\, decorated bikes\, included disabled-accessible bikes from Wheels for Wellbeing\, will travel a short route through Bankside and Borough\, taking some Mardi Gras colour to the Tate. The exact route is still under discussion but experienced cyclists\, abled and dis-abled are needed to marshal the ride plus some arty/crafty types to decorate the bikes. \nThe day will round off with a free Mardi Gras Pancake Party. Children are invited to come after school from 3:30 to 5pm for pancake flipping contests\, fresh pancakes\, live music and a chance to ride the decorated Mardi Gras bikes. The party will take place next to The Fruit Tree on Great Suffolk Street\, SE1 1PE. \nExperienced cyclists are needed both to ride the accessible bikes and to join in on their own bikes. The Parade will be marshalled and riders with experience of guided group cycling are particularly needed. Children\, sadly\, are not allowed on the Parade but can try the accessible bikes at the Pancake Party. All riders must register in advance. \nTo take part\, apply via the website https://se1mardigras.wordpress.com or email hmdigitalprojects@gmail.com.
