SUMMARY:Bike Train to Blackfriars
DESCRIPTION:Want to cycle up to town but worried about getting there safely? Come with us and use our “inside knowledge” (as one pleased rider called it). Our route includes two parks\, a traffic-calmed backstreet\, the New Kent Road pavement bike lanes\, the Elephant and Castle bypass and the lovely new segregation. No need to come anywhere near an HGV or a bus. Main hazards: dogs\, small children\, shopping trolleys and other cyclists. \nWe take riders on individually to Faringdon\, Kings Cross\, Mayfair and Westminster. Return rides by arrangement on the day. \nWe leave Nunhead Station at 8am\, Peckham Rye station (from the bike stands behind McDonalds) at 8.10am and arrive at Blackfriars at 8.45. We are free and reliable (unlike the train) and\, equally unlike the train\, we will wait if we know you are coming. So to book your place\, mail southwark@lcc.org.uk or text me 07842 640 207

SUMMARY:Bike Train to Blackfriars and beyond
DESCRIPTION:This is our destination. The lovely new segregated cycle lanes to Blackfriars and beyond. Our “secret route” to the segregation takes us through two parks\, a traffic-calmed residential backstreet\, the pavement cycle lanes on the New Kent Road\, the E&C bypass and the Dutch-style cycle lanes. \nWe leave Nunhead Station at 8am and Peckham Rye Station (from the bike stands behind McDonalds) at 8.10am arriving Blackfriars 8.45am. Unlike the train we are free and reliable. Also unlike the train we will wait a short while if we know you are coming. Let us know by contacting southwark@lcc.org.uk or just turn up. \nReturn rides arranged personally on the day. Buddy riders to more off-beat destinations — Clapham Junction\, Ladbroke Grove to name just two — also arranged. Tell us your wishes (maybe restrict them to just one for now) and we will do our best

SUMMARY:Bike Train to Central London
DESCRIPTION:This flowery bank is slightly off the Bike Train route. You have to stop in Burgess Park Cafe on the way back to get a good look at it. But you get the idea. This route goes through the park\, two parks in fact\, a traffic-calmed backstreet\, the New Kent Road on-pavement cycle lanes\, the Elephant and Castle bike by-pass and then the segregated lanes to Blackfriars and beyond. \nWe have taken bike commuters on to Kings Cross\, Faringdon\, Fleet Street\, Westminster\, Mayfair and Hyde Park. A branch line from Denmark Hill Station joins the Bike Train in Burgess Park (where the flowers are). Return journey arranged individually. \nWe start at 8am from Nunhead Station\, pick up at 8.10am from Peckham Rye Station (from the bike stands behind McDonalds) and arrive at the north end of Blackfriars Bridge at 8.45am. The Denmark Hill train leaves that station at 8.10am. \nTo ask for more details\, arrange a different pick up spot or tell us you are coming phone or text 07842 640 207 or mail southwark@lcc.org.uk. We are a lot more fun than the trains on tracks and a lot more reliable. And we wait for latecomers so if you know you are coming but might be a little late just text and we will wait for you

SUMMARY:Bike Train Weekender
DESCRIPTION:The Bike Train will run up to town on a Sunday so that this “bit of inside knowledge” (as one rider called it) can be shared as widely as possible and enjoyed without the prospect of work at the other end \nRide Leader Bruce Lynn will take riders up to Blackfriars Bridge by the Bike Train route and then sweep west along the segregated routes to Westminster. At Westminster Bridge he’s got a choice He may turn right and head for St James’ Park and Birdcage Walk (maybe do a circuit when the roads are closed to traffic on a Sunday). Or he may turn over the bridge and come back along the south bank\, past the Eye\, the Festival Hall\, the National Theatre etc. \nWhat he will choose will probably depend on the weather and what everyone wants to do. \nAll welcome. Bring bigger kids or have a nice time without them. You can let us know you are coming on southwark@lcc.org.uk or just turn up.

SUMMARY:European History of Peckham and Camberwell
DESCRIPTION:Bike your way IN to history! \nEver wondered about the names of Calais Road\, De Crespigny Park\, Denmark Hill or Delft Way? Did you know that Camberwell had a thriving German population in the 19th century\, supporting bakeries\, a German church and visiting composers? Or that a community of French Huguenot refugees settled here? Have you spotted the Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Camberwell New Road? Ever bought Cypriot pastries in SE5 or French chocolate in SE15? \n\n\nThis free guided cycle ride will uncover the European history of Camberwell and Peckham. It’s led by Eleanor Margolies\, author of ‘Green Camberwell’. All welcome\, including accompanied children. We will mainly be on quiet roads and will travel at a gentle pace\, with stops for sightseeing and appropriate refreshments. \nBooking: The ride is completely free but it would help us to plan if you book. Please email eleanor.margolies at southwark.greenparty.org.uk to book or with any questions.

SUMMARY:Bike Train to central London and beyond
DESCRIPTION:Doesn’t that look nice? There’s about a mile of segregation on Blackfriars Road and St George’s Way taking you to the heart of London. The Bike Train takes you to the segregation and after Blackfriars to Westminster\, Mayfair\, Faringdon\, Kings Cross\, and Canary Wharf. You name it we can take you there (within reason\, like) \nWe use two parks\, a traffic-calmed backstreet\, the pavement-cycle-lanes on the New Kent Road\, the Elephant and Castle by-pass and then (joy) the segregation to Blackfriars. Anyone whose ever seen the traffic on the Old Kent Road will feel they have been transported to another city. \nThe Bike Train leaves Nunhead Station at 8am and picks up riders at the bike stands behind McDonalds in Rye Lane (right beside Peckham Rye Station). We pick up other riders from our Denmark Hill branch line in Burgess Park and then the train is fast (not really) to Blackfriars Bridge. \nThe segregation goes north from there to Faringdon\, west to Westminster and east to Tower Hill (I think). On from there on Cable Street (I’m told). You can tell I’m a bit hazy from there. \nTo join text me on 07842 604 207; email southwark@lcc.org.uk or just turn up. If we know you are coming we will wait.

No pressure to buy. No one will ask you to sign anything. No one will moan or look grumpy. Find us under Peckham Arch at the south end of Surrey Canal Path. SUMMARY:Bike Train runs again
DESCRIPTION:The Bike Train runs again — the weather gods are smiling on us. We skip (can trains skip?) between the rain-drops\, lightening bolts and thunder. \nOur route is the usual one; two parks\, one traffic-calmed backstreet\, the pavement-cycling lanes on the New Kent Road\, the Elephant and Castle by-pass and onto the lovely new segregated cycle lanes. Everyone who tries it is converted. \nWe start from Nunhead Station at 8am; pick up at Peckham Rye station at 8.10am and meet a branch line coming in from Denmark Hill Station at 8.20am in Burgess Park. The departure point from Peckham Rye station is the bike stands behind McDonalds (west end of Holly Grove). We arrive at the north end of Blackfriars Bridge at 8.45am. \nFrom there we take riders on individually. So far we have taken people to Kings Cross\, Faringdon\, Mayfair\, Hyde Park and the Tower (not for incarceration). All this is free. Everyone is cheerful and no one fears for their life at any point. \nReturn rides are also arranged individually. Like real trains these are heart-stoppingly expensive. No that’s a joke. These are also cheerfully arranged and free. To join in mail southwark@lcc.org.uk or text me on 07842 640 207 or just turn up.
