SUMMARY:Healthy Ride + to Trinity Buoy Wharf - The New\, the Old and the Derelict!
DESCRIPTION:Usual easy-paced ride avoiding as far as possible busy roads.  Meet at Cutty Sark\, beside the tunnel entrance. The probable route is Foot Tunnel to Island Gardens – Thames Path to Millwall Inner Dock – Over to Canary Wharf\, walk over footbridge\, offices\, Trafalgar Road.  Underpass and CS3 to Bow Creek and Trinity Buoy Wharf.  Up and over the A120.  Dock Road and out onto Victoria Dock.  Over Connaught Bridge and into Thames Barrier Park meander through this as it has many paths and bridges.  There is a cafe and loos so might be our coffee stop. A long stretch around the Airport and back over Connaught Bridge heading towards Trinity Buoy Wharf.  Stop this time to look around then on to West India Dock\, back along the east side of Isle of Dogs to Greenwich foot tunnel.  18 miles and no serious hills\, just a few upslopes to flyover/bridge/out of tunnel. Note route may well differ in detail on the day.  Amanda leading.  Link to Pdf of provisional route below. \nSHR Canary\, Barrier\, Trinity – The New\, The Old and the Derelict

SUMMARY:Dulwich Park-Burgess Park-Brockwell Park Loop Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:Easy-paced ride that links 3 major parks.  Starts at the Café in Dulwich Park and goes through Dulwich Village and East Dulwich to Rye Lane in Peckham.  Brief stop at our 4th Saturday start location\, Peckham Square. Then down the Surrey Canal Path to Burgess Park.  A complete east-to-west crossing of Burgess Park takes us to Camberwell Rd.  We cross this and head through quiet streets to the small park of Myatts Fields. SUMMARY:Canada Water to Mile End Park (Overground-assisted)
DESCRIPTION:I put the train-assisted bit up front to remind anyone planning to come to bring their Oyster/contactless cards with them. The ride was planned a month ago to go via Haggerston but those planned engineering works keep on coming and the line from Highbury and Islington to Shadwell will be shut on Saturday\, wiping out the Haggerston arm at a stroke. \nSo instead the ride will meet at Canada Water library (SE16 7AR) at 10am and (as previously planned) take the Overground which is very good for bikes (spacious lifts and trains every 3-4 minutes) but this time to Shadwell. After that riders will head across to Mile End\, partly on an upgraded CS2. \nThen Regents Canal and Wapping Thameside as before. At Limehouse the ride will follow the Thames upstream to Tower Bridge. Then cross Tower Bridge and follow NR4 along the south bank back to Canada Water. Easy\, flat\, ride almost entirely on quiet roads and paths. Back to Canada Water at noon.  Route at https://goo.gl/zuUrvb \n[southwarkcyclists.org.uk]

SUMMARY:Bike Train via QW1
DESCRIPTION:This is a map of Quietway 1. It comes within half a mile of Peckham High Street but is completely unsigned until you’re on it. The best approach is via Surrey Canal Path and Glengall Road — and that’s the way the Bike Train goes. \nWe start from outside Nunhead station at 7.45am and pick up riders at Peckham Rye Station (by the bike stands behind McDonalds) ten minutes later. We arrive at the river around 8.30am depending on which bridge or bridges get the nod. \n\nFurther progress depends on where you want to go. Please text ahead to say you are coming and where you want to go to. I’m on 07842 640 207. The branch line from Denmark Hill will not run unless booked ahead. Return rides arranged on request. \n\n\nSouthwark Cyclists is the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign which campaigns for more\, better cycling in London. Most of us are members but you don’t have to be. Most of us live in Southwark but some of us don’t and you don’t have to. And everything we do is free\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Annual General Meeting
DESCRIPTION:This is our AGM where we elect the co-ordinator\, secretary and those who do all the work.  If you want to be one of them or nominate anyone please come along. To vote you will need your LCC membership card. We also hear reports of what has been done during the past 12 months and make an attempt to plan the year ahead. \nit is followed by our normal monthly meeting and preceded at 6pm by a meeting of the infrastructure wallahs. The whole lot takes place at our not-so-new venue at 41 Grosvenor Park SE5 0NH (see picture below). It’s much more respectable than it looks. Coming from Burgess Park\, cross Camberwell New Road and proceed in an westerly direction along Urlwin Street\, under the railway bridges\, left at the end and straight on into the cul-de-sac in front of you. Very respectable. Look carefully\, no 41 is slightly less respectable and belongs to the tenants association. That’s the place. No bike parking. Try the railings. \n \nThe alternative approach is via Addington Square\, across to Bethwin Street\, right into Grosvenor Terrace\, immediately right into Grosvenor Park \n Look for the cul-de-sac on your right at the end. \nLast time I said that\, sadly\, there was no pub in the area. There is some dispute about this but I have to say I haven’t noticed anything. Bring pub radar.  If you get lost phone 07842 640 207 and I will walk out and wave my arms around. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n+ GOOGLE CALENDAR+ ICAL EXPORT

SUMMARY:Dr Bike on QW1
DESCRIPTION:Let the Doctor check your bike. The Doctor and his bike health workers will tighten your brakes\, pump up your tyres and index your gears. Never make those strange noises again when you brake or change gear. The doctor likes to be challenged so bring your problems along. \nHis aides and attendants will be handing out literature\, discussing the latest news on bringing safe cycling to the Old Kent Road and gossiping. Everything is free. Everyone is welcome. A good time will be had by all unless it rains in which case I don’t know what we will do. No Bike Marking. Sorry. \n\nThe google map below is more or less right. In practice we will be a little closer to the traffic lights on the opposite corner of Lynton Road to Crol and Co (77 Dunton Road) (excellent cafe). \n\n

SUMMARY:Bike Train and Bike Taxis
DESCRIPTION:The Bike Train has fans (lots of them) but we recognise it can’t be perfect for everyone. That’s why we are introducing Bike Taxis. These will be customised rides designed for individuals. For some people the Bike Train just doesn’t work. They don’t work on Wednesdays or they don’t like Blackfriars Bridge. If I’m describing you just get in touch and we will discuss Bike Taxis in greater depth. \nThe Bike Train will still run. It’s a commuter ride leaving out the crush\, the waiting\, the heat and the congestion. We take about 35 minutes to get from Peckham Rye to Blackfriars Bridge and we do not go fast. I’m the pace-setter and I go about 8mph. Occasionally I overtake (small) children but I’m generally overtaken by everyone else. \n\n\n\nCome with us and learn off-road and segregated routes to central London via Blackfriars. We bike-buddy riders to their final destination. Escorted all the way and totally free. \n\nThe Bike Train starts at 7.45am from Nunhead station\, 7.55am from Peckham Rye Station. The starting point in Peckham is the bike stands behind McDonalds. Today we are using Quietway 1 — London’s first and best Quietway. It runs from Greenwich to Waterloo with spurs to all bridges and it runs close to Peckham and Nunhead. \nWe get to the river about 8.30am and then we can split up depending on which where you are going and which bridge you want to use. Return rides arranged on request. For further details or to book your place text 07842 640 207 (me). \n\n\n\nSouthwark Cyclists is the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign which campaigns for more\, better cycling in London. SUMMARY:Last Dr Bike under Peckham Arch in 2017
DESCRIPTION:What can I say? The grief\, the despair. Nothing to do but stay at home in the warm and drink. The final opportunity of 2017 to get someone to work on your bike for nothing. They may be grumpier than usual. They may be cold. \nNevertheless they are still good workers. The good Doctor and his attendant bike nurses will fettle your bike. They index gears\, tighten brakes\, pump up your tyres and warn you to clean your chain. SUMMARY:Bike Train and Bike Taxi
DESCRIPTION:This is your (aging) train crew. I’m the bald one in the middle with my husband Bob on my right and my boss\, Andy\, co-ordinator of southwark cyclists on my left. We are pausing for thought near the BMX track in Burgess Park. We don’t think much so it was a short stop. \nIf we are spared by Hurricane Lulu\, the Bike Train will run via QW1 this Wednesday. This Quietway is really quiet — lots of cyclists use it but traffic counts are very low. It crosses the approach roads to Tower Bridge\, London Bridge\, Southwark Bridge and Blackfriars Bridge and is a good way to get to all of them. Not that I am recommending London Bridge\, although lots of people do use it\, it wouldn’t be my first choice. \nQuietway 1 passes quite close to Peckham but is slightly tricky to find. After that it’s well signposted\, reasonably straight and widely used by cyclists as befits such a well constructed route. The only tricky bit is understanding that this quiet backstreet leads to other quiet backstreets and on to yet more quiet backstreets until you are there. SUMMARY:monthly meeting
DESCRIPTION:We’ve invited speakers representing British Land to come and talk to us about what’s going on at Canada Water. British Land has spent five years assembling the Canada Water site. \nIt includes Surrey Quays Shopping Centre and Harmsworth Quays\, the former Daily Mail General Trust printing works. Last piece in the jigsaw was its acquisition of Surrey Quays Leisure Park in March this year. The combined sites have potential for around 5.5 million sq ft of office\, retail\, residential\, leisure\, educational and community space. The size of the site makes the re-developer a big player in Southwark and staff have acknowledged “concerns” about CS4. They will be on first at 6.30pm. \nThe meeting is at our not-so-new venue at 41 Grosvenor Park SE5 0NH (see picture below). It’s much more respectable than it looks. Coming from Burgess Park\, cross Camberwell New Road and proceed proceed in an easterly direction along Urlwin Street\, under the railway bridges\, left at the end and straight on into the cul-de-sac in front of you. Very respectable. SUMMARY:To central London by Bike Taxi and Bike Train
DESCRIPTION:It seems to be just me who finds black cabs romantic. Most people immediately associate them with enormous fares. Anyway Bike Taxi will not be romantic (during working hours at any rate) and they are free. \nThe idea is that your Bike Taxi will take you anywhere you wish to go — any time\, any place — by arrangement. Which means if your Bike Taxi-driver is up for getting you there. So you say what you want to do and we find someone to get you there. Your flexible friend. \n\nThe Bike Train starts at 7.45am from Nunhead station\, 7.55am from Peckham Rye Station and 7.55am from Denmark Hill Station. The Peckham Rye and Denmark Hill lines join in Burgess Park which is why it’s OK that they start at the same time. \nThe starting point in Peckham is the bike stands behind McDonalds and at Denmark Hill from outside the cafe in Windsor Walk. Camberwell Grove and Windsor Walk have both been closed since we started so this route keeps getting better. \nOur route takes us through two parks\, up a traffic-calmed back street\, onto the on-pavement cycling lanes on the New Kent Road\, around the Elephant and Castle by-pass and onto the still lovely but no longer so new segregation up St George’s Way and Blackfriars Road. All legal and all as safe as your mother would make it. \nWe get to Blackfriars at 8.30am and anyone who wants can be buddied wherever they want. Return rides arranged on request. For further details or to book your place text 07842 640 207 (me). Or just turn up \nThe map is here: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1Pq8aj3Ylf1S9eg44QbGvAD4qSbM&ll=51.49177636679164%2C-0.0878830999999991&z=12 \nNota Bene that the bit from Dulwich Village to Denmark Hill only runs for special occasions and subject to bribery (surprisingly small amounts accepted). So if that’s the bit for you let us know asap so that we run it. \n\n\n\nAnd the cycle.travel map is here: http://cycle.travel/map/journey/41005. The info with the map says we do 500m on major roads so it may not know about the on-pavement cycle lanes on the New Kent Road — and 130m pushing. No pushing. I’m fine to push when required but it’s not required. \n\n\n\n\n\nSouthwark Cyclists is the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign which campaigns for more\, better cycling in London.
