SUMMARY:Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:At our not-so-new venue at 41 Grosvenor Park SE5 0NH (see picture below). It’s much more respectable than it looks. Coming from Burgess Park\, cross Camberwell New Road and proceed in an westerly direction along Urlwin Street\, under the railway bridges\, left at the end and straight on into the cul-de-sac in front of you. Very respectable. Look carefully\, no 41 is slightly less respectable and belongs to the tenants association. That’s the place. No bike parking. Try the railings. \n \nThe alternative approach is via Addington Square\, across to Bethwin Street\, right into Grosvenor Terrace\, immediately right into Grosvenor Park \n Look for the cul-de-sac on your right at the end. \nWe still haven’t found a pub. Bring pub radar.  If you get lost phone 07842 640 207 and I will walk out and wave my arms around.

SUMMARY:Dr Bike under Peckham Arch
DESCRIPTION:Doesn’t look like your average GP\, does he? Certainly the screwdriver and the spanner would worry me if my doctor whipped them out. The mad glare doesn’t help either. But more calmly now. Fear not. Dr Bike is returning from his winter sleep. He reckons that by April it will be safe to come out from under the covers. He will be under Peckham Arch on the first Thursday of every month and on Quietway 1 near the crossing on Dunton Road every third one. On the second and fourth Thursdays\, he rests. \nThe series starts under Peckham Arch because there’s shelter against early April rain. Working on site will be one ace professional mechanic\, two amateur but brilliant volunteers and an assortment of people handing out chat\, maps\, info and keeping the queue in order. \nThe mechanics tighten brakes\, sort out clicking gears (aka indexing\, I’m told)\, pump up tyres and give wise advice (“clean that chain”\, “I would buy a new tyre”\, “needs new brake blocks”). It’s all free and everyone is welcome. If anyone tells you we charge\, they are confused. \n

\nLast time I said that\, sadly\, there was no pub in the area. There is some dispute about this but I have to say I haven’t noticed anything. Bring pub radar.  If you get lost phone 07842 640 207 and I will walk out and wave my arms around.

DESCRIPTION:This is a map of Quietway 1. It comes within half a mile of Peckham High Street but is completely unsigned until you’re on it. The best approach is via Surrey Canal Path and Glengall Road — and that’s the way the Bike Train goes. \nWe start from outside Nunhead station at 7.45am and pick up riders at Peckham Rye Station (by the bike stands behind McDonalds) ten minutes later. We arrive at the river around 8.30am depending on which bridge or bridges get the nod. \n\nFurther progress depends on where you want to go. Please text ahead to say you are coming and where you want to go to. I’m on 07842 640 207. The branch line from Denmark Hill will not run unless booked ahead. Return rides arranged on request. \n\n\nSouthwark Cyclists is the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign which campaigns for more\, better cycling in London. SUMMARY:Canada Water to Mile End Park (Overground-assisted)
DESCRIPTION:I put the train-assisted bit up front to remind anyone planning to come to bring their Oyster/contactless cards with them. The ride was planned a month ago to go via Haggerston but those planned engineering works keep on coming and the line from Highbury and Islington to Shadwell will be shut on Saturday\, wiping out the Haggerston arm at a stroke. \nSo instead the ride will meet at Canada Water library (SE16 7AR) at 10am and (as previously planned) take the Overground which is very good for bikes (spacious lifts and trains every 3-4 minutes) but this time to Shadwell. After that riders will head across to Mile End\, partly on an upgraded CS2. \nThen Regents Canal and Wapping Thameside as before. At Limehouse the ride will follow the Thames upstream to Tower Bridge. Then cross Tower Bridge and follow NR4 along the south bank back to Canada Water. Easy\, flat\, ride almost entirely on quiet roads and paths. Back to Canada Water at noon.  Route at https://goo.gl/zuUrvb \n[southwarkcyclists.org.uk]
