SUMMARY:monthly meeting
DESCRIPTION:At our not-so-new venue at 41 Grosvenor Park SE5 0NH (see picture below). It’s much more respectable than it looks. Coming from Burgess Park\, cross Camberwell New Road and proceed in an westerly direction along Urlwin Street\, under the railway bridges\, left at the end and straight on into the cul-de-sac in front of you. Very respectable. Look carefully\, no 41 is slightly less respectable and belongs to the tenants association. That’s the place. No bike parking. Try the railings. \n \nThe alternative approach is via Addington Square\, across to Bethwin Street\, right into Grosvenor Terrace\, immediately right into Grosvenor Park \n Look for the cul-de-sac on your right at the end. \nWe still haven’t found a pub. Bring pub radar.  If you get lost shout loudly and someone will walk out and wave their arms around.

SUMMARY:Community Speedwatch
DESCRIPTION:Bob Eva will be representing the community and holding the speed gun. Looking after him will be his personal police protection officer\, Kevin Phillips. Kevin gets between Bob and angry drivers. The picture doesn’t show one of their captures but you get the idea. Bob and Kevin will be exercising their skills in Herne Hill at the junction with Holmdene Avenue. \nAnyone can join in. If the idea of pointing a speedgun at motorists attracts you then mail PCSO Phillips on kevin.j.phillips@met.police.uk. He will be very pleased to hear from you. If you are nice he will invite you to a party on December 6th from 2pm.

SUMMARY:Bike Maintenance and Tuition
DESCRIPTION:Southwark Cyclists and Lettsom Tenants & Residents Association (henceforth TRA) are holding free bike maintenance sessions with tuition and hands on assistance. You can bring your bike in for a free check-up; come and learn the basics of bike maintenance\, or just drop in for a chat about anything bike-related. \nThe whole operation is free — you don’t need to live on the Lettsom or even in Southwark. You will need a bike. The man in charge is Bruno whom many people will have met on our summer Dr Bikes. He gets bored in the winter. \nThe sessions will be a mix (depending on need) of teaching (this is how you change brakes) and hands-on assistance. They will be held in the Lettsom TRA hall. The official address is 114 Vestry Road SE5 8PQ. It’s just up the hill from the parade of shops\, and is accessed by a passage on the left of the shops. Picture to follow. All welcome. Free to all.

SUMMARY:community speedwatch
DESCRIPTION:Southwark Cyclists will be lending their presence to the fight against speed near the Grange Road/Dunton Road junction. As the nights draw in the sessions are earlier in the afternoon. The speed guns work in the dark but it’s harder to spot the car numbers which are an essential part of the scheme. To volunteer\, mail Kevin Phillips on kevin.j.phillips@met.pnn.police.uk. SUMMARY:community speedwatch
DESCRIPTION:Lots of chat about speeding on Barry Road and now the council wants to run its flagship cycling route down the road. The average speed is over 24mph (I wouldn’t dispute that) and some motorists are doing more than 30mph (I wouldn’t dispute that either). All these figures come from the police and it’s hard not to suppose that they are the sort of speeds motorists do when they have a police car on their tail. \nNow Community Speedwatch is going to use its investigative powers on the bit around the Barry Road/Upland Road junction. Southwark Cyclists is providing the community engagement and the long-arm of the law will be represented by PCSO Kevin Phillips and well represented too. To assist\, mail Kevin on kevin.j.phillips@met.pnn.police.uk. He will be pleased to hear from you.

SUMMARY:community speedwatch
DESCRIPTION:Southwark Cyclists speedwatch volunteers will be on Croxted Road near the junction with the South Circular. They will be protected from the revenge of the motorist by PCSO Kevin Phillips. He’s not allowed to hold the speed gun (“war on the motorist”). A community volunteer is needed to do that but Kevin is allowed to write down the numbers and do the admin — tell TfL who to write rude letters to. And the presence of a man in uniform does tend to reduce the temperature of the occasional confrontation. To offer your assistance mail Kevin on kevin.j.phillips@met.pnn.police.uk. He will be very pleased to hear from you.

SUMMARY:AGM and monthly meeting
DESCRIPTION:Inspirational speaker Michael Barratt\, MBE and the TfL man behind the famous and very wonderful Road Safety Patrols will be the main draw at our AGM. This Patrol is a partnership of TfL\, cyclists (us)\, pedestrian and other stakeholder groups. Their aim is to keep us safe. \nMore about Michael Barratt and his MBE and what it’s for here: https://tinyurl.com/y7qqzccm No one else seems to care but the Road Safety Patrol thinks we matter. They inspect (not on paper but on bikes) all TfL and major development schemes while they are underway and try to make sure that traffic management and construction management implemented does not negatively impact on vulnerable roadusers. They try to keep us alive. \nMr Barratt will be speaking at 6.30. I’m told his talks are good so do come and enjoy it. Sadly he will be followed by the AGM but it is OK to leave at this point. \nMembers wanting to start a revolution are very welcome. Opportunities for a take-over by radical elements are available. Your committee will be very pleased to be overthrown. If you don’t want to go that far there will be reports on what we’ve done\, opportunities for volunteering and the accounts. There is often booze at some point. \nThere will be the ordinary meeting after the AGM for anyone left. The whole affair will be held in the usual place which is 41 Grosvenor Park SE5 0NH (see picture below). \n\n\n\n\n \nThe alternative approach is via Addington Square\, across to Bethwin Street\, right into Grosvenor Terrace\, immediately right into Grosvenor Park \n Look for the cul-de-sac on your right at the end. \nWe still haven’t found a pub. Bring pub radar.  If you get lost phone 07842 640 207 and I will walk out and wave my arms around.

SUMMARY:community speedwatch
DESCRIPTION:everyone knows that 1) speed cameras are just money-raising devices\, that 2) drivers are the best judge of what is a safe speed. Everyone also knows that speeding is so commonplace and the police so busy that they don’t have time to catch them all. Nevertheless\, and bafflingly\, complaints about speeding continue to flood in from those who don’t understand points 1 and 2 \nTfL therefore funds Community Roadwatch (aka Community Speedwatch in the rest of the country but that was too controversial for the then-Mayor Johnson B). Speeding doesn’t actually result in fines\, or not straightaway. If you are daft enough to get caught three times then you get a penalty. \nGiving up part of his Saturday today is Southwark Cyclists volunteer Werner\, protected by PCSO Kevin Phillips (pic above)\, a man admirably dedicated to road safety with whom we all agree. To assist him\, mail kevin.j.phillips@met.pnn.police.uk. He will be very pleased to hear from you. \n

SUMMARY:Quietways critical fails ride
DESCRIPTION:Meet outside Prince William Henry\,  216-219 Blackfriars Rd\, London SE1 8NL for an enjoyably grumpy look at Southwark’s Quietways. The leader will be Sean Howes a large\, cheerful\, determined bloke on a green Bromption.\n\nThe group will cycle the section of QW14 in Southwark and then loop back up the section of QW1 before heading back and going down QW7 . The routes of these are shown  https://drive.google.com/open?id=1y4sinmvHLAo7jwyqHQG_O0LfA02kBtwr&usp=sharing \n\nThe idea is to look for CLOS critical fails on both the build and proposed sections of the Quietways. Opinions will be more useful if those holding them first read https://lcc.org.uk/pages/clos \n\n

SUMMARY:By Air and Under Sea - Healthy Ride from Greenwich to the Olympic Park
DESCRIPTION:Repeat of this popular\, easy-paced\, ride last ridden in July. Start/finish from Cutty Sark\, Greenwich\, beside the foot tunnel entrance.  It is surprisingly easy to take a bike on the Emirates Airline cable car at North Greenwich (although you do have to pay – £3.50 with Oyster Card etc). Route will go from the Airline to the Olympic Park via the Greenway (including the new access ramp near the southeast end). Coffee break somewhere in the Park\, then back via Isle of Dogs and the Greenwich Tunnel (so not strictly under sea\, but  the Thames here is tidal and salty). Route track below. Be assured the missing bit will be alright on the night! Philippa leading.  Part of our regular Healthy Rides series using as far as possible paths and quiet roads. This is a 3rd Saturday “+” ride taking 3.5 hours

SUMMARY:Dr Bike on Quietway 1
DESCRIPTION:The last Dr Bike of the season. Sad. Let’s hope it’s not raining because there’s no shelter at our workplace — and it will be getting dark by the end of it too. \nFour mechanics\, one pro and three ace amateurs\, will be mending bikes\, indexing gears\, tightening brakes\, pumping up tyres\, fixing that squeak and telling you why your back wheel wobbles. We don’t carry parts but if you bring brake pads we can fit them. Use our oil. Listen to our wise advice and ask tricky bike-questions. I’ve learned a lot just by listening. \nWe have bike maps\, local gossip to give as well as receive. Everyone is welcome. Everything is free. THERE IS NO CATCH. Our user reviews report excellent value for money. \nWe are the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign which works for safe\, enjoyable cycling in London. You don’t need to be a member or live in Southwark. Everything we do is free and as welcoming as we can make it.

SUMMARY:Bike Train via Quietway 1
DESCRIPTION:This is a map of Quietway 1\, London’s best quietway. Lots of people like it. The numbers of people using it are increasing every year as riders tell their friends. \nWe’re tending to use Quietway 1 for the Bike Train these days rather that the traditional route. This is mostly because Quietway 1 is a gem and the Bike Train route is beset by roadworks and people digging it up. All in a worthy cause I’m sure but they get in the way. \n\nWe set off at 7.45am from Nunhead station\, swing by Peckham Rye (meeting at the bike stands behind McDonalds) and then head up glorious Surrey Canal Path. QW1 is only 10 mins very easy ride from Peckham Town Centre. We asked for it to be signposted but TfL won’t allow signposting in case cyclists are misled. I’m pretty sure we are more robust than that but never mind we will show you how it’s found. \nQW1 crosses all the approach roads to the Thames bridges — starting with Tower Bridge\, London Bridge\, Southwark Bridge and finally Blackfriars. Riders can be taken to any one of them\, take your pick and we can take you on if you let us know in advance. We get to the river around 8.30am \nAny queries text me on 07842 640 207 or mail us on southwark@lcc.org.uk. Everyone welcome. Return rides arranged on request. Most things arranged on request. If the Bike Train doesn’t suit you\, ask about our Bike Taxis — your free personal escort to work. \n\n

SUMMARY:Funeral for the Unknown Cyclist - Pedal on Parliament
DESCRIPTION:This is a  national cycling and walking protest & die-in against the government & Parliament before the autumn budget. It’s organised by Stop Killing Cyclists\, who base their approach on the very successful Stop the Child Murders die-ins in Holland\, during the early 70s\, which were the catalyst for the transformation of Holland into  the most bike-friendly country in the world. If you’ve ever ridden a bike in The Netherlands\, you’ll know how far we have to go..\n\n\n\n\nThe protest is to condemn all existing and previous governments from all the major parties for their failure to take comprehensive action on safer cycling. It calls for £3 billion a year to be invested in a national protected cycling network and no more tax cuts for fuel. These cuts are damaging our children’s lungs for life and shortening lives.\n\n\n\nWe have some of the lowest levels of cycling investment in Europe and the highest levels of childhood obesity We need urgent action to tackle these problems and investment in cycling is one of the best.\n\nThere’s a feeder ride to the protest which will pass by Crol coffee shop at the Dunton Road/Lynton Road lights on QW1. Join Jane Dent for a coffee and then join the ride at 11.25am to Webber St and pick up more people at the corner of CS6 Blackfriars Rd at 11.40am. Or join the protest at midday in Lincoln’s Inn Fields. At 1pm the procession starts and from 2-3pm there’s a rally and die-in at the Treasury\, Parliament Square.\n\n\n\n\n

If you get lost phone 07842 640 207 and I will walk out and wave my arms around. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n+ GOOGLE CALENDAR+ ICAL EXPORT
