DESCRIPTION:At our not-so-new venue at 41 Grosvenor Park SE5 0NH (see picture above). It’s much more respectable than it looks. Coming from Burgess Park\, cross Camberwell New Road and proceed in an westerly direction along Urlwin Street\, under the railway bridges\, left at the end and straight on into the cul-de-sac in front of you. Very respectable. Look carefully\, no 41 is slightly less respectable and belongs to the tenants association. That’s the place. No bike parking. Try the railings. \n \nThe alternative approach is via Addington Square\, across to Bethwin Street\, right into Grosvenor Terrace\, immediately right into Grosvenor Park \n Look for the cul-de-sac on your right at the end. \nWe still haven’t found a pub. Bring pub radar.  If you get lost shout loudly and someone will walk out and wave their arms around.

Use underpass to get to Perry Vale and down to National route 21 (Waterlink Way) at Bell Green. Quiet streets to Beckenham Place Park. Brief stop at Mansion then back to Waterlink Way. DESCRIPTION:Free and everyone welcome. It’s not a course\, it’s a drop-in.. What gets taught depends on what problems you bring in. The guys that do it are well known greats from our summer-time Dr Bikes at Peckham Arch and on Quietway 1. These evening bike-fixing sessions are a joint venture between Southwark Cyclists and Lettsom Tenants & Residents Association and are held in the TRA hall. That’s not a super-easy thing to find so a useful picture of the hall is included. Vestry Road\, up the hill passed the shops and down an alley on your left is the best verbal description I’ve been given. See below for full address. The whole shebang is free\, cheerful and open to anyone. No ID checks. You need to bring a bike to get full benefit. DESCRIPTION:Policemen driving around tend to underestimate the amount of speeding because\, surprise\, surprise\, motorists don’t break the law so often with a policeman on their tail. Southwark Cyclist volunteers working with the Met have opened their eyes. The civilian-held speedguns found so much speeding that the real police have started using speed guns themselves and handing out real fines. \nYou can do your bit. Councillors rely on police estimates of speeding when deciding where to put the traffic calming and road closures. DESCRIPTION:Southwark Cyclist volunteers are working with the police to reduce illegal speeding on our roads. Community Speedwatch is a co-operation between the community (represented by us) and the Met. The community volunteer holds the speedgun and shouts out the numbers and PCSO Kevin Phillips writes down the registration numbers and makes. Then he looks up the drivers using Automatic Numberplate Recognition and they all get threatening letters. They are catching so many that the traffic police are getting involved with their own speedguns and handing out real fines. \nThis is worthwhile and a lot of fun. Even better is that they find so many that the Met have started doing it themselves and issuing real fines. DESCRIPTION:Build your cycling skills with expert instructors from Cycle Confident. This is a free drop-in four-hour session. You don’t have to book or stay for it all. You do need to bring bikes. Although the flyer says “bikes and helmets” that’s not precisely right. No one needs a helmet as long as the parents consent. SUMMARY:Thames Loop - Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:Usual easy-paced ride on mostly quiet streets and paths. Start/finish in Deal Porter Square next to Canada Water Library and opposite CW Station (SE16 7AR). Plan is to ride to Greenwich\, cross via the foot tunnel\, then ride upstream to Tower Bridge\, probably using the “canals” through Wapping. Finally back along the Bermondsey riverside to Canada Water.  Riding Tower Bridge is not as daunting as some think – slow traffic\, no side turnings\, actually rather straightforward.  Rest of route is quiet roads or paths.  Lots of points of interest – Deptford riverside\, Cutty Sark\, Canary Wharf\, St Katherines Dock. DESCRIPTION:Free and everyone welcome. It’s not a course. What gets taught depends on what problems you bring in. The guys that do it are well known from our summer-time Dr Bikes at Peckham Arch and on Quietway 1. These evening bike fixing sessions are a joint venture between Southwark Cyclists and Lettsom Tenants and Residents Association and are held in the TRA hall. That’s not a super-easy thing to find so some useful pictures are included. Vicarage Road\, up the hill passed the shops and down an alley on your left is the best verbal description I’ve been given. See below for full address. The whole shebang is free\, cheerful and open to anyone. No ID checks. You need to bring a bike to get full benefit. DESCRIPTION:This is led by our Dr Bike mechanics operating at their usual A+++ standards. It is free and open to all. Joint funders are Southwark Cyclists and Lettsom Tenants and Residents Association who are providing the hall. You don’t need to live on the Lettsom or in Southwark to take part. You do need to bring a bike (condition immaterial). Don’t wait till spring to get that old wreck out of the shed. Get it out now\, dust off the spiders and bring it along. The only tricky bit is probably finding the hall. A picture is attached but I am told it can be tricky finding the door. I can’t imagine how that works. DESCRIPTION:At our not-so-new venue at 41 Grosvenor Park SE5 0NH (see picture above). It’s much more respectable than it looks. Coming from Burgess Park\, cross Camberwell New Road and proceed in an westerly direction along Urlwin Street\, under the railway bridges\, left at the end and straight on into the cul-de-sac in front of you. Very respectable. Look carefully\, no 41 is slightly less respectable and belongs to the tenants association. That’s the place. No bike parking. Try the railings. \n \nThe alternative approach is via Addington Square\, across to Bethwin Street\, right into Grosvenor Terrace\, immediately right into Grosvenor Park \n Look for the cul-de-sac on your right at the end. \nWe still haven’t found a pub. Bring pub radar.  If you get lost shout loudly and someone will walk out and wave their arms around.

DESCRIPTION:Start/finish at Dulwich Clock Cafe in Dulwich Park SE21 7BQ\nUsual easy-paced 10 mile ride on mostly quiet streets and paths.  Start with the uphill bit\, then can cruise home mostly downhill.  College Rd to Crystal Palace Park\, (some walking allowed for in the ride timing). Then down through the park to the dinosaurs. Return route quiet streets east to Waterlink Way (Nat Route 21) opposite Cator Park. Then long stretch mostly off road north along Waterlink Way to Ladywell Fields. Finally back to Dulwich via LCN22 and Peckham Rye Park. DESCRIPTION:Show the Met the community cares about speeding. I’m sure we all do. Community Speedwatch is a collaboration between the community (us) and the police (PCSO Kevin Phillips and friends). The community volunteer — in this case Southwark Cyclist Bob Eva — holds the speed gun and the Met writes down the numbers and sends them off to TfL who writes nasty letters to the drivers. \nIf you get caught three times you have to take an IQ test (no that’s a joke) you get a police fine. So the punishments on offer are not great but it seems to terrify drivers\, reduces their sense of impunity and provides evidence of widespread speeding which it’s useful for the police to see.
