SUMMARY:Christmas Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:Christmas Healthy Ride +    Dec 28th 2019 \nStart/finish 9.30am in Peckham Square (next to Peckham Library and Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre\, SE15 5JR) \nWerner feels the Boxing Day ride will not have metabolised all the turkey so proposes at + ride for the last Saturday of the year.  We would normally start from Peckham on the 4th Saturday\, so we will do that.  But at 9.30\, half an hour earlier than for a regular 2 hour ride.  Then we can do a 3.5 hour “+” ride and still get back for 1pm and lunch (What? Eating again?). \nRoute ideas are sketchy\, but maybe a big loop incorporating Greenwich\, Q14 to the South Bank then Q1 back. Leave Q1 for Falmouth Rd and Q7 (CW17?) to Burgess Park and a preview of some of the Spine route.  Not many hills\, but will still dispose of some of the excess calories. \nWe will proceed at our usual stately pace with a coffee stop about half way.  A lot of quiet streets and avoiding any too busy tarmac.  What’s not to like? See you there! \nThis ride is part of Southwark Cyclists (the local LCC branch) regular Saturday morning Healthy Rides.  See https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/ for more information.

SUMMARY:free bike maintenance with hands-on tuition
DESCRIPTION:Run by Bruno (see pic) on behalf of Southwark Cyclists in Camberwell Leisure Centre which has south-east London’s most memorable address\, Artichoke Place SE5 8TS. The leisure centre is friendly\, cheerful\, accessible and welcoming. Bruno and the boys are the same. Everyone is welcome and no one pays. \nThis is a drop-in not a course. You turn up with a problem and the guys fix it while showing you carefully what to do and helping you do it. What gets taught depends on what problems turn up. \nSouthwark Cyclists are the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign who campaign for safer cycling throughout London. We campaign for safer cycling in Southwark. To join us or ask a question email southwark@lcc.org.uk or tweet @southwarkcycle. Everything we do is free and open to all.

SUMMARY:Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:At our not-so-new venue at 41 Grosvenor Park SE5 0NH (see picture above). It’s much more respectable than it looks. Coming from Burgess Park\, cross Camberwell New Road and proceed in an westerly direction along Urlwin Street\, under the railway bridges\, left at the end and straight on into the cul-de-sac in front of you. Very respectable. Look carefully\, no 41 is slightly less respectable and belongs to the tenants association. That’s the place. No bike parking. Try the railings. \n \nThe alternative approach is via Addington Square\, across to Bethwin Street\, right into Grosvenor Terrace\, immediately right into Grosvenor Park \n Look for the cul-de-sac on your right at the end. If you are very lost shout loudly and someone will come out and wave their arms about to guide you home. We seem to have located a pub  I am glad to say. Travel hopefully and you will arrive.

SUMMARY:Dulwich to Beckenham Place Park - Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:Start-finish at Dulwich Clock Cafe\, SE21 7BQ.  Direct route to Forest Hill along the South Circular.  Not our usual choice\, but provides a quick passage.  Exit park via the Roseberry Gate and use the shared-use pavement to Lordship Lane. Up Lordship Lane\, past the Horniman Museum\, down London Road using mostly cycle and bus lanes.  At the junction at Forest Hill Station\, dismount and use the crossing and the pedestrian underpass (a few steps here).  Continue to Mayow Park\, Bell Green and the Waterlink Way (National Route NR21).  South 300 metres on NR21 before turning left under the railway.  Then quiet streets to Beckenham Place Park.  Brief stop at the Palladian-style 18th century Mansion then head back by the same route to the Waterlink Way.  Follow this for 2 km north to Ladywell Fields.  Finally up to the footbridge over the railway and through to Peckham Rye Park following LCN22.  Along the top of the park and via quiet streets back to the Court Lane entrance to Dulwich Park. Route map at https://bit.ly/2FLEtqT  and .GPX file below.\n \nDulwich—Beckenham-Place-Park–Short02 (2019_06_27 21_53_24 UTC)

SUMMARY:free bike maintenance with hands-on tuition
DESCRIPTION:This is a drop-in not a course so what gets taught is pretty random. You bring the problems and the guys teach you how to fix them. This is the place to bring the bike covered in spiders which you found in your Mam’s shed. They also do less long term stuff like “How do I pump up these tyres?” (a question which puzzled me for a long time) and “Why does my chain keep coming off?” (it’s stretched and you need a new one and possibly a new set of gears) \nIt all takes place in or outside Camberwell Leisure Centre in Artichoke Place SE5 8TS. The leisure centre is very friendly with nice staff and a cafe. Bliss. \nThe sessions are run by Bruno on behalf of Southwark Cyclists. SUMMARY:Community Speedwatch
DESCRIPTION:Southwark Cyclist Bob Eva will be representing the law-abiding public and PCSO Kevin Phillips will be representing the forces of law-n-order (the Met). The information they collect is used by the Met traffic police to set up their own speed traps. The support they receive directly from the public encourages the Met to care just that little bit more about speeding. All in all\, well worth the effort. To join in email kevin.j.phillips@met.police.uk. He’s an affable chap who hates bad driving.

SUMMARY:AGM followed by monthly meeting and food/drink
DESCRIPTION:This is our AGM. There’s a big changeover of staff ahead so come and welcome the new faces. You will need a card to vote but it doesn’t usually come to that. It’s more like a family party without the in-fighting. We hope to have a speaker to add a bit of interest and there will definitely be pizza and wine at the end. \n\n\n\n \n\n\nIt will all be happening at our not-so-new venue at 41 Grosvenor Park SE5 0NH (see picture above) which is much more respectable than it looks.

SUMMARY:Lord Mayor's Show - Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:Our annual trip to ride some of the procession route for the Lord Mayor’s Show.  There is a window after the roads are closed but before the floats and coaches etc get going.  Ride leader Werner is an expert at picking the right moment. Usually get to see a bit of the parade.  Lots of fun.

They also do less long term stuff like “How do I pump up these tyres?” (a question which puzzled me for a long time) and “Why does my chain keep coming off?” (it’s stretched and you need a new one and possibly a new set of cogs and sprockets) \nIt all takes place in the warm inside Camberwell Leisure Centre in Artichoke Place SE5 8TS. The leisure centre is very friendly with nice staff and a cafe. Bliss. \nThe sessions are run by Bruno on behalf of Southwark Cyclists. We are the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign which campaigns for safer cycling in London. We campaign for safer cycling in Southwark. If you want to join in you can mail us at southwark@lcc.org.uk or tweet @southwarkcycle. Everything we do is free and as welcoming as we can make it.

SUMMARY:Crystal Palace Loop - Dulwich Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:This is a route we have done several times\, most recently in February with snow on the ground in Crystal Palace Park (see photo with ride report at http://healthyrider.weebly.com/healthy-ride-reports-jan-march2019.html).  Should be no risk of snow in early November!  Propose to ride clockwise.  Start across to Peckham Rye Park then over the hill at Nunhead and down to the Waterlink Way at Ladywell Fields\, Follow the off-road Waterlink Way (Nat Route 21) for nearly 2 miles to Lower Sydenham. Continue on quiet streets to Cator Park followed by a loop through Penge to Crystal Palace Park.  Have to check out the dinosaurs\, then up the hill to Crystal Palace Parade.  Steep in places\, but plenty of time to walk stretches if necessary (you will not be the only one doing this!).  Finish with a delightful run downhill back to Dulwich park. \nRoute https://goo.gl/rfUzwn

SUMMARY:Community Speed Watch
DESCRIPTION:Southwark Cyclists volunteer Robert Eva will be out with a speedgun hoping not to better the previous top speed registered by CRW of 66mph (see pic). His personal protection officer PCSO Kevin Phillips will be standing beside him writing down the numbers of law-breakers. There are so many they give poor\, old Kevin a sore hand. Their results are evidence which is driving the Met\, TfL and other boroughs to crack down on speed. You can support them. To join in and receive a warm welcome email kevin.j.phillips@met.police.uk. SUMMARY:Parks-ride to celebrate National Park City
DESCRIPTION:London’s green spaces have always been valuable for cycling and this ride celebrates 5 of our local parks – Burgess\, Ruskin\, Brockwell\, Dulwich and Peckham Rye. Indeed London is now the world’s first National Park City\, a recognition of just how green it is and a challenge to keep it so. \nWe have done this ride several times\, most recently in February (see Report). As then\, we will ride anti-clockwise. Down the Canal Path to Burgess Park. Across the length of Burgess\, exiting on Cycleway 17 (Quietway 7 as was). Up Camberwell Grove and through past Denmark Hill station to Ruskin Park.  Dog-leg around Ruskin to exit up at the south west corner and ride via Herne Hill station to Brockwell Park.  We did a lot of Brockwell recenty on rides\, so just a short cut through it to Rosendale Road and round to Dulwich park\, stopping briefly at Herne Hill Velodrome. At Dulwich Park pass the location for our first Saturday rides and continue via the Court Lane exit to Peckham Rye park.  Down through this last\, fifth\, park to Rye Lane and Peckham Square.  Route at http://goo.gl/maps/hFFNL \nEasy ride\, lots of path\, no serious hills.  Come and enjoy a Healthy Ride! \nMore information about the Healthy Rides Programme on the Healthy RIde pages

SUMMARY:Community Speed Watch
DESCRIPTION:Back on Salter Road near the junction with SE1. Cyclists know the danger of speeding motors. These speed traps evidence the problem to the Met and borough councils who are joining in the move to 20mph speed limits. Even Westminster is thinking slower.
