SUMMARY:Peckham to South Bank - Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:Start/finish at Peckham Square (by Peckham Library and Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre\, SE15 5JR) \nEasy paced 9 mile circuit\, plenty of time to stop at places of interest over a 2 hour ride. \nSet out down the Canal Path to join CW1 (was Quietway 1) and follow this excellent route to Blackfriars Road. Do 2-stage right on to Cycleway 6 and turn off just before the river on to Upper Ground.  Follow this along the South Bank past the National theatre\, Festival Hall and London Eye to Westminster Bridge.  Heading home use the (newish) cycle lanes and crossing on the old roundabout to get briefly on to Westminster Bridge Rd. Turn down Lower Marsh then at the Old Vic pick up a short bit of CW1 to Blackfriars Rd. Turn south along C6 towards the Elephant and Castle. Take the Western Bypass route to Heygate St\, then link through to CW17 back to Burgess Park\, the Canal Path and our starting point in Peckham Square.  Flat route with lots to see.  Route map at http://shorturl.at/eiF38 \nRoute file /Peckham-to-South-Bank-2020.gpx\, linnk here: Peckham-to-South-Bank-2020

SUMMARY:free bike maintenance with hands-on tuition
DESCRIPTION:This is a drop-in not a course so what gets taught is pretty random. You bring the problems and the guys teach you how to fix them. This is the place to bring the bike covered in spiders which you found in your Mam’s shed. They also do less long term stuff like “How do I pump up these tyres?” (a question which puzzled me for a long time) and “Why does my chain keep coming off?” (it’s stretched and you need a new one and possibly a new set of cogs and sprockets) \nIt all takes place in the warm inside Camberwell Leisure Centre in Artichoke Place SE5 8TS. The leisure centre is very friendly with nice staff and a cafe. Bliss. \nThe sessions are run by Bruno on behalf of Southwark Cyclists. We are the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign which campaigns for safer cycling in London. We campaign for safer cycling in Southwark. If you want to join in you can mail us at southwark@lcc.org.uk or tweet @southwarkcycle. Everything we do is free and as welcoming as we can make it.

SUMMARY:monthly meeting
DESCRIPTION:At our not-so-new venue at 41 Grosvenor Park SE5 0NH (see picture above). It’s much more respectable than it looks. Coming from Burgess Park\, cross Camberwell New Road and proceed in an westerly direction along Urlwin Street\, under the railway bridges\, left at the end and straight on into the cul-de-sac in front of you. Very respectable. Look carefully\, no 41 is slightly less respectable and belongs to the tenants association. That’s the place. No bike parking. Try the railings. \n \nThe alternative approach is via Addington Square\, across to Bethwin Street\, right into Grosvenor Terrace\, immediately right into Grosvenor Park \n Look for the cul-de-sac on your right at the end. If you are very lost shout loudly and someone will come out and wave their arms about to guide you home. We seem to have located a pub  I am glad to say. Travel hopefully and you will arrive.

SUMMARY:Explore Dulwich Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:First ride in 2020! Usual easy-paced ride on\, as far as possible\, quiet streets and paths. Do you really know Dulwich? Come and work off some calories while exploring this part of Southwark. Easy ride\, suitable for all types of cyclist. \nStarting from Dulwich Park we will head up to Dawsons Heights.  Great views from here of the skyline of central London and across to the northern part of Dulwich. Next to East Dulwich and the Dulwich Hamlets football ground.  When we first rode this route there was uncertainty about the future of this old (since 1890s) ground\, but it appears the future of Hamlets is now assured (for background read this). Next back though Dulwich Village and up College Rd to the tollbooth. Dulwich Estates charge a small toll on the south part of College Rd.  Is this the last working tollbooth in London? Now down to the south end of Dulwich to a castle. Yes\, Dulwich has a castle – or at least a Kingsdown House that looks just like a castle. Finally down to Belair Park and on to the Herne Hill Velodrome.  Alway lots of activity at the velodrome – on the track and the mountain bike trail plus plenty of children learning to ride in the area inside the track. From the velodrome just a short hop back through Dulwich Village and into Dulwich Park. Route at https://goo.gl/CJRHNu ; gpx file attached here: Explore_Dulwich

SUMMARY:Christmas Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:Christmas Healthy Ride +    Dec 28th 2019 \nStart/finish 9.30am in Peckham Square (next to Peckham Library and Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre\, SE15 5JR) \nWerner feels the Boxing Day ride will not have metabolised all the turkey so proposes at + ride for the last Saturday of the year.  We would normally start from Peckham on the 4th Saturday\, so we will do that.  But at 9.30\, half an hour earlier than for a regular 2 hour ride.  Then we can do a 3.5 hour “+” ride and still get back for 1pm and lunch (What? Eating again?). \nRoute ideas are sketchy\, but maybe a big loop incorporating Greenwich\, Q14 to the South Bank then Q1 back. Leave Q1 for Falmouth Rd and Q7 (CW17?) to Burgess Park and a preview of some of the Spine route.  Not many hills\, but will still dispose of some of the excess calories. \nWe will proceed at our usual stately pace with a coffee stop about half way.  A lot of quiet streets and avoiding any too busy tarmac.  What’s not to like? See you there! \nThis ride is part of Southwark Cyclists (the local LCC branch) regular Saturday morning Healthy Rides.  See https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/ for more information.

SUMMARY:Dulwich to Beckenham Place Park - Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:Start-finish at Dulwich Clock Cafe\, SE21 7BQ.  Direct route to Forest Hill along the South Circular.  Not our usual choice\, but provides a quick passage.  Exit park via the Roseberry Gate and use the shared-use pavement to Lordship Lane. Up Lordship Lane\, past the Horniman Museum\, down London Road using mostly cycle and bus lanes.  At the junction at Forest Hill Station\, dismount and use the crossing and the pedestrian underpass (a few steps here).  Continue to Mayow Park\, Bell Green and the Waterlink Way (National Route NR21).  South 300 metres on NR21 before turning left under the railway.  Then quiet streets to Beckenham Place Park.  Brief stop at the Palladian-style 18th century Mansion then head back by the same route to the Waterlink Way.  Follow this for 2 km north to Ladywell Fields.  Finally up to the footbridge over the railway and through to Peckham Rye Park following LCN22.  Along the top of the park and via quiet streets back to the Court Lane entrance to Dulwich Park.
They also do less long term stuff like “How do I pump up these tyres?” (a question which puzzled me for a long time) and “Why does my chain keep coming off?” (it’s stretched and you need a new one and possibly a new set of gears) \nIt all takes place in or outside Camberwell Leisure Centre in Artichoke Place SE5 8TS.

SUMMARY:Community Speedwatch
DESCRIPTION:Southwark Cyclist Bob Eva will be representing the law-abiding public and PCSO Kevin Phillips will be representing the forces of law-n-order (the Met). The information they collect is used by the Met traffic police to set up their own speed traps. The support they receive directly from the public encourages the Met to care just that little bit more about speeding. All in all\, well worth the effort. DESCRIPTION:This is our AGM. There’s a big changeover of staff ahead so come and welcome the new faces. You will need a card to vote but it doesn’t usually come to that.
