SUMMARY:Greenwich to Wanstead Park Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:Greenwich to Wanstead Park Ride\n\nStart 9.00am at Cutty Sark\, next to the tunnel entrance. NOTE EARLY START. Hope to finish back at Greenwich at 1.30\, but with uncertainties on a long ride please allow for possible 2pm finish. Route out: round Thames path to London Cable Car across river. Then on to Beckton Corridor off road path and round past Beckton Alps\, bit of cycle path and back streets to Wanstead Park\, maybe part along River Roding. Return across Wanstead Flats\, quiet streets to Olympic Park\, Hertford Union Canal\, Regents Canal Towpath/Mile End Park\, west side of Isle of Dogs to the Greenwich Foot Tunnel. If the lifts are working\, complete ride by crossing to the Cutty Sark. If not\, end the ride at the tunnel. If required riders who wish to cross will be guided to Mudchute DLR Station where there is step free access. There is also step free access at Greenwich DLR station. Note this is a long route with a lot of continuous riding. We will be at our usual easy pace\, but probably cycling for 3 hours +. You get a rest on the Cable Car (remember to bring some way of paying the fare) and a coffee break. Nevertheless worth bringing a snack and a drink. Ride Leader – Amanda. \nRiders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  Same for “adults at risk”. \nThis ride is part of a regular programme of Saturday rides\, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/.

SUMMARY:South of the River in 1814 - Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:South of the River in 1814\nThis short\, leisurely ride follows those roads south of the river that date from the eve of Waterloo\, as shown on William Darton’s Map of 1814 (‘The Stranger’s Guide to the Streets of London and Westminster’). We begin from Canada Water\, going directly to Jamaica Road\, and then following a loop across to Lambeth\, with lots of zig-zags to take in roads of interest. Along the way we’ll visit Cherry Garden Street\, where Jamaica House once stood (as Pepys tells us). The historical high point will be at the Obelisk\, at the foot of Blackfriars Road\, erected to commemorate the building of the third bridge across the Thames in 1771. Our coffee break will be just opposite the Old Vic\, by Lower Marsh Market. 13 miles\, finish back at Canada Water at 1pm. John S. leading.

The Effra is one of London’s “Lost Rivers”\, small rivers that have disappeared into underground pipes. Starting 10am from Dulwich Park Café we will first divert to Belair Park\, the only place where the Effra is visible above ground. Next quiet streets to Brockwell Park\, exit on to Brixton Water Lane\, then take Effra Road to Brixton Central.  Long run down Brixton Rd to the Oval where we join Cycleway 5 to Vauxhall Bridge.  You used to be able to see the exit of the Effra into the Thames just downstream\, but the Tideway Tunnel people have built lots of stuff concealing this.  May be just visible again now. Short stop on Vauxhall Bridge then a ride past the American Embassy with its moat and defensive rampart and a look at the Sky Pool.  Interesting quiet back streets route to Myatts Fields.  Then Elim Open Space\, across Coldharbour Lane at Cambria Rd\, and along Milkwood Rd to Herne Hill.  Finally Burbage Rd\, past the Velodrome (maybe pop in if we have time) and back to Dulwich Park (expect that to be at 12.30).  11 miles\, a mixture of quiet and busy streets\, some cycle lane. Should have time for a coffee stop – maybe the Black Cab Café off 9 Elms Rd. Bruce leading. Route at http://tinyurl.com/y7ul6r9r

SUMMARY:London Bridge-Kensington Gardens Loop - Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:London Bridge-Kensington Gardens Loop \nNOTE. Please register on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers\, link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/london-bridge-to-kensington-gardens-circular-cycle-ride-tickets-868586835607\n \nThere has been a decade or more of work to develop safe\, segregated cycle routes in London. What kind of possibilities has it opened up? Last year I set out to look at Central London where most of the new cycleways are. Stitched together a circular route that gets you around in reasonable comfort and passes lots of interesting locations.  Report of last year’s ride is here. \nStart 10am at London Bridge. Cross bridge and drop down to Cycleway 3\, a well-designed\, segregated route. Follow this along the embankment\, through Parliament Squ\, past Buck house\, across Hyde Park and into Kensington Gdns. Start return past the Albert Memorial and continue to Lancaster Gate. Abandon C3 here and stay in Hyde Park heading east. Exit Hyde Park just before Marble Arch via the cycle crossing to Stanhope Pl\, then back streets (LCN5) to Crawford St where the route becomes Cycleway 27. C27 is a bit of a let-down; no segregation\, no protection at junctions. However it is a (nearly) straight route. At Gower St we leave C27 and use the segregated lanes on Torrington Place eastwards\, these not having a cycleway designation (LCN6). Keeping going east we join a second stretch of well designed route\, Cycleway 6 and turn south to and over Blackfriars Bridge. Last segment is on C14 most of the way to London Bridge. At an easy pace we can ride this loop in 3 hours including a coffee break. Bruce Leading\, 14 miles.  Route at https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1qkrX4KxPAZfk9xDVDZM5tWq_oaj4kBQ&usp=sharing \nRiders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  Same for “adults at risk”.  If you cannot make a ride\, please cancel so that someone else can take the place.
