SUMMARY:Riding the SuperSewer Healthy Ride++
DESCRIPTION:Riding the SuperSewer\nPlease register for rides on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers\, link:  https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/riding-the-supersewer-with-southwark-cycists-tickets-1998670138186?aff=oddtdtcreator \nAll day 41 mile circuit following the now complete SuperSewer (Thames Tideway Tunnel\, map and info here) looking at the many legacy projects and a few incidental events. Weeks of research by Ride Leader Werner have now found the ideal route! \nStart 9am\, London Bridge (Needle). Begins with a ride to Acton Storm Tanks where the SuperSewer begins. On the way will pass though Notting Hill where preparations for the big Parade will be visible.  Possible to join the ride at Acton. Be there before 10.30 and wait at the Canham Road entrance. If meeting there indicate this on the registration form and we will send you a number to message in case of problems. From Acton will follow line of the tunnel to the Thames at Hammersmith with probable coffee break at the Riverside Studios. Continue along the Thames on the north bank stopping at various Tideway related sites. Then cross Albert Bridge (now traffic free) to Battersea Park. Possible lunch stop here\, ca 12.45. Continue on south side to the tiny new “Effra Island” next to Vauxhall Bridge then cross back over Westminster Bridge. Alternative lunch stop on the South Bank ca 1.15.  Route continues to the King Edward Memorial Park in Wapping. Here the park has been expended to include the new land created to provide space for the Tideway work (see https://www.tideway.london/locations/king-edward-memorial-park-foreshore/). We then head inland following the sewer to the amazing Victorian pumping station at Abbey Mills. This is where the new tunnel ends as it links to existing pipes to Becton Sewage Treatment Works. Finally we will ride back to the start at London Bridge arriving there very approximately at 3.30pm. \nCome for all or part of the ride\, and have a great Bank Hol outing. But remember bring snacks\, water and puncture repair kit or spare inner tube and give your bike a thorough check. \nGeneral Information. \nRiders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe.  If you cannot make a ride\, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. These rides are part of a regular programme of Saturday rides organised by Southwark Cyclists\, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/.

SUMMARY:Greenwich SuperSewer Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:Greenwich SuperSewer Ride\nNOTE. Please register for rides on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers\, link:  https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/greenwich-supersewer-cycle-ride-from-canada-water-tickets-2000052810797?aff=oddtdtcreator \nAs well as the main sewer along the Thames a second sewer was needed to carry overflow from the Deptford Storm Relief Sewer. A direct connection to Abbey Mills looks the obvious solution but the geology was unsuitable so instead a tunnel was bored all the way to Rotherhithe. This joined the main pipe at Chambers Wharf adjacent to Cherry Gardens. The ride will follow this project from the start in Greenwich to Chambers Wharf. \nMeet 10am in Deal Porter Square (next to Canada Water Library\, across the road from Canada Water station).  Aim to be back there at 12.00 to 12.30 after a 9 mile ride. Will start by riding to The Halfpenny Bridge (Norman Rd) via Greenland Dock and the Deptford waterfront. Admire the Victorian Greenwich Pumping Statiion through the fence then ride back to Deptford Church St. This was where the tunnelling started and the area used has been made into a small park with some new art work\, Next a long ride\, mostly Cycleway 10 then Southwark Park\, to the Thames at Cherry Gardens. During construction this was a key location where 3 tnnels joined. A large piece of new land was made stretching 50 metes or more out into the river. This has all gone now. Just one lonely barge left with some gear on it. If time we will continue to one more location involved in the Thames Pipeline project. This is the Shad Thames Pumping Station that was upgraded to eliminate outflows. \nEasy-paced ride largely on off road paths or segregated cycle lanes. Bruce leading. Route nap https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=18m0cMYTpKuPVfILXIMbLqs-xtvX316A&usp=sharing \nRiders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. SUMMARY:The Full Wandle 2026
DESCRIPTION:This ride is a nice challenge. Rde the entire Wandle Trail on a Saturday morning starting from London Bridge (Southwark Needle\, south east side of London Bridge). In fact we are going to cheat a bit by ending the ride at East Croydon Station. So bring your Travel Pass or equivalent to get home by train.  This ride is Amanda’s idea and she will be leading. Total ride distance is 19 miles and we are planning to finish by 2pm following a 9am start. This should allow time for looking around at some of the interesting parts of the Trail and having a coffee break. Parts of the trail are not surfaced and can be quite uneven\, so difficult on narrow wheels. \nRoute outline. From London Bridge take Cycleway 10 to Waterloo.  Over Westminster Bridge and along the cycle lane on the embankment to and over Chelsea Bridge and into Battersea Park. Thames Path to the start of the trail where the River Wandle meets the Thames.  Nice stretches include Abbey Water Mill\, Morden Hall Park and Beddington Park. SUMMARY:London Cycling Festival Feeder Ride
DESCRIPTION:London Cycling Festival Feeder Ride\nOn Sunday Sept 20th London Cycling Campaign (LCC) is again organising a London Cycling Festival. This will be much larger than the first Festival last year. It will be based on activities by individual borough groups of which Southwark Cyclists is one. Centrepiece will be a 4 mile mass ride from the Festival Hub at St Paul’s to the Hub at Church St\, Marylebone. \nSouthwark Cyclists will run a feeder ride to the St Pau’ls Hub starting from Peckham Rye Park (The Round Cafe\, 10am) via Peckham Square (10.10\, next to Peckham Library and Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre) and Burgess Park Cafe (Stomping Grounds Cafe\, Chumleigh Gardens\, 10.20). The ride is timed to allow people to join the Kidical Mass Safari Cycle. The Southwark Cyclists Feeder ride is open for registration\, link https://lcc.org.uk/events/lcf-southwark/. Please do register as it helps us organise the correct number of marshals. But note it should be possible to turn up at the last minute.  Both our feeder ride and the mass ride will be fully marshalled and suitable for children (and adults of course). Riders of all ages are welcome on the ride but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Same for “adults at risk”.
