Please register on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers\, link:  https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/cutty-sark-to-hall-place-cycle-ride-tickets-1128830314859 \nIcy forecast for 11 Jan caused postponement. Hoping for better weather on 18th. \nHall Place started as a Tudor mansion and was then extended in the 17th century. There is lots of history\, fine gardens and a modern Riverside Café (info at https://www.hallplace.org.uk/). Start 10am\, Cutty Sark\, near the foot tunnel entrance. To begin the ride\, we go up Greenwich hill then across Blackheath. Then to Eltham Park South\, then on to Danson Park on the left and Blackfen on the right. From there to Hall Place. This ride is mostly cycle path and quiet roads. After our coffee break will return by the route we came. Aim to finish by 1:30pm. Mike K. leading. \nRiders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe. If you cannot make a ride\, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. This ride is part of a regular programme of Saturday rides\, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/.

Please register for rides on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers\, link:  https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/christmas-lights-southwark-cyclists-ride-tickets-1110153311439 \nAfter last year\, swore never to repeat this ride. However\, by popular demand… 4.00 pm start. London Bridge\, south side\, next to Southwark Gateway Needle\, Bruce leading\, Werner assisting. Hope to be back by 6.30 pm. Ride will be in 3 sections. A steady ride along south side of river then crossing Waterloo Bridge. Next the main event\, a complex circuit of Covent Garden area and the West End including the obvious suspects – Oxford\, Regents and Bond Streets – plus a few less well-known.  The central streets will be VERY CROWDED with pedestrians and motor traffic including large Tour Buses. Maintaining cohesion in the group may at times be difficult.  As well as bike lights\, please also decorate your bike. A festive light on the helmet is a great way to remain visible in a crowd. Make sure your phone is charged up and you must give a phone number on registration. Father Christmas suits are allowed. Final part of the ride will be the short homeward run along the Embankment Cycleway.  Join us if you can. SUMMARY:Healthy Ride - Cunning Cover-ups: London’s Best-hidden Ventilation Shafts
DESCRIPTION:Cunning Cover-ups: London’s Best-hidden Ventilation Shafts\nPlease register for rides on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers\, link:  https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/cunning-cover-ups-cycle-ride-to-londons-best-hidden-ventilation-shafts-tickets-1049731654637 \nLondon’s network of tunnels (for tubes\, trains and sewerage) needs a huge number of ventilation shafts\, but these are often considered to be a blot on the landscape. Over the years\, an astonishing range of cover-ups have been attempted\, and on this fun ride we’ll see ten of the finest examples. \nWe set off from Canada Water (10am) on a 20-mile route\, visiting Burgess Park\, Pimlico Tube Station\, and Hyde Park\, where we stop for a leisurely break by the Serpentine. After circling the park we head for the river\, cycling from Westminster bridge to Waterloo bridge\, before heading for the Strand. From there\, we go to Paternoster Square\, then Finsbury Circus and finally to see our last example at the Bank of England. From there\, it’s down to London Bridge\, where some riders will probably choose to catch a train\, while the rest of us make a quick and easy return to Canada Water by way of Tooley Street and Jamaica Road. John S. leading. Aiming to be at London Bridge for 2pm and Canada Water at 2.30. \nRiders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  Same for “adults at risk”. This ride is part of a regular programme of Saturday rides\, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/.

DESCRIPTION:NOTE. Please register for rides on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers\, link< https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-stirling-prize-finalists-cycle-ride-tickets-1046740387677 > \nLondon Stirling Prize Finalists\nBBC London News has been highlighting the 4 sites in London that have been shortlisted for the Stirling Prize for best new building projects. Bruce has designed a route that will allow us to evaluate each one.  The locations are Chowdhury Walk in Hackney\, Kings Cross Masterplan\, National Portrait Gallery and The Elizabeth Line.  More info on the RIBA web site. We will stop at the first 3 locations and have a look/take photos. We will get inside the 4th site\, i.e. take a short trip on the Elizabeth Line. \nStart at Southwark Needle\, London Bridge\, 10.00.  Ride to Liverpool St Station and take the neat mini-funiculars and a lift down to the Elizabeth Line platforms. Travel 2 stops to Stratford and exit on to Gt Eastern Way next to the bus station. Ride across to the Lee Navigation and after ½ mile of towpath cross the Lee and go the short distance to Chowdhury Walk. Stop for photos\, then 5 miles are across North London passing Homerton Hospital and crossing London Fields to Kings Cross. More photos then down through Bloomsbury and the West End to the Portrait Gallery next to Trafalgar Square. Final photos and head to the Embankment and Cycleway 3 back to London Bridge. Total of around 13 miles of cycling. Should be back by 1pm. Proposed route from Stratford onwards here: https://www.komoot.com/tour/1905996562. \nRiders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  Same for “adults at risk”.
