SUMMARY:Rainham Marshes
DESCRIPTION:From Cutty Sark Gardens we will head east along the river path to Woolwich\, and take the free ferry across the Thames.  From North Woolwich we then follow the river for a short distance\, and ride through the Gallions Reach industrial and retail parks\, emerging onto Cycle Superhighway 3 on the A13 near Barking Creek.  We then turn south and follow the riverside road through some more interesting Thames-side industrial land.  At Dagenham we compete with car bootists but after the Ferry Lane industrial estates we will hit the riverside path by the edge of the marsh where we can lunch at the RSPB café (or bring your own).  The return route is the reverse of the above. \nThe view of Canary Wharf from this edge of London can be beautiful\, there are some lovely birds around the sanctuary\, and dolphins sometimes cavort in the mother river. \nThe ride is 45-50 miles\, so bring snacks\, water\, tools and a spare inner tube or two.  Lights are advisable even though it will be summer time. \nIan Blore 07900253658

SUMMARY:TFL CS7 & CS4 Review
DESCRIPTION:TfL is reviewing the quality of the existing and proposed cycle superhighways in the northern part of Southwark. As part of that process\, a review of the Southwark parts of CS7 and CS4 has been set up between TfL and members of Southwark Cyclists. \nThe time and date for this is 5pm on Tuesday 25th March. We will meet by the raised planters at the Queen St junction with Upper Thames St at the start of CS7 in the City. From there we will head south across Southwark Bridge\, cover off CS7 (in Southwark) and then head off to do the Southwark parts of CS4. \nPlease do come along if you can – this is a great opportunity to dig out the shared concerns about the existing quality of CS7 and communicate those to TfL and to give them pointers for the design of the proposed CS4.

DESCRIPTION:This is the unfun bit (well I think so)though we do our best.  \nWe heard from Tim Warin\, Bike-It schools officer for Southwark\, about the hard work he’s doing to persuade kids to mend bikes\, ride safely\, and generally enjoy their wheels. We got sort-of tough about what sort of Quietways we want to see in Southwark — the clue here is we want good ones\, that don’t abandon us when it gets dangerous. Some poor souls got the job of telling TfL in enormous detail what’s wrong with their plans for the Elephant& Castle roundabout; we agreed we wanted bike hangars that aren’t a gift to bike thieves for the revamped London Bridge Station.  \nMore detail available here for those who like detail:\ndraft mins of mtg SC Mar 12th 2014 \nAmy Aeron-Thomas (who runs RoadPeace and wants the killing to stop) took pity on the full\, long agenda and added her Traffic Justice Update afterwards. It’s short and is here:\nSC Traffic Justice update Mar 2014 \nIt includes a link to TfL “six road safety commitments” — still in beta. They have to think for a long time before committing themselves to anything as radical as that \nAll complaints about these minutes welcome but the catch is you have to come to the next meeting which is: April 9th\, 6.30pm in the usual place (see below for map etc)

DESCRIPTION:Meet At Bromley South Station At 09:20 for the 09:39 To Teynham – ETA 10:33\nThe first 7 miles include a climb of around 500ft or so …after which there will be a few further lumps…so fairly hilly but nothing too difficult .Initially we head out to Bapchild ..then South to Little Higham..before turning East into Doddington ..then through Newnham \,Eastling \, & Hockley ..North then to Painters Forstal ..thence due North to the Bird Sanctuary at the old Harty Ferry crossing point ( shut in 1946 ! ) to gaze out over the Medway then back South for a loop through Norton Ash and Lynsted …and then back to Teynham Station ( Hopefully easily getting back in time for the 15:58 back to Bromley \nPub lunch will almost certainly be at the Alma in Painters Forstal \nOverall Distance – 30.3 Miles\nAscent & Descent 1664 Ft . \nPlease Bring Lights!!

SUMMARY:South London circular – Saturday 4th January 2014
DESCRIPTION:For my first ride of 2014 I’m trying something slightly different…..no trains are involved in this circular ride\, sometimes quite \nhilly which links some ‘highlights’ of south London and environs. We’ll take the Waterlink way from Catford down to Bromley \nSouth then head out of Bromley through Hayes and make a gradual often very steep climb up to Down. Going east \nwe’ll meet the Darenth valley\, and take a lunch stop\, possibly at a pub in Shoreham. After lunch we’ll loop back towards \nLondon from near Eynsford\, up through Jubilee Park and Chiselhurst to Bromley south. From there\, the route back to \nCatford/Brockley is via Beckenham and Forest Hill\, arriving by c.16:00. \nIt’s darker now\, so please bring some lights; don’t forget inner tubes\, and warmer clothing\, just in case. \n40-45 miles

DESCRIPTION:Esteemed Velopedists of Greater Londinium\, \nThe festive season approacheth\, and the Southeast London Commissariat for Social Cycle Rides Planning (aka the Dog & Bell Crew) invites you to join many\, various and adventurous local cyclists for a Mithrasmas meander from maritime Greenwich to Putney. Much of the ride will be along the Thames Path\, away from motor vehicles full of squabbling adults and exasperated children. \nTweets by dogbellcrew \nThe Mithrasmas Mass is a Christmas Day tradition begun in 2001 by the late great Barry Mason. \nStarting at 10:00 from Cutty Sark Gardens by Greenwich Pier\, we shall follow the Thames Path toward central London\, call at Southwark Needle by London Bridge to collect more riders\, and head west as far as a riverside watering hole in Putney. \nFollowing the refreshment break at the Duke’s Head pub\, riders who do not have family Christmas dinner commitments will cross the river\, and head northeast through Hyde Park toward Edgware Road. There they will feast at a Lebanese restaurant\, before dispersing in the late afternoon. \nPrevious years have seen upwards of 100 cyclists of all ages\, genders\, ethnicities and body-mass indices take part in the Mithrasmas Mass\, and we usually get a few skiving Santas thrown in. Last year it rained hard in the morning\, such that some of those starting in Greenwich found themselves aquaplaning across Cutty Sark Gardens. Despite the deluge\, we had a respectable turnout by Southwark Needle\, the rain eased off as we headed west\, and much fun was had by all. \nThose wishing to come on the ride are asked to bring warm clothing\, water\, snacks\, lights\, basic tools and puncture repair materials\, and preferably a spare inner tube or two. Active parents are most welcome on the ride\, provided that they are accompanied by at least one responsible child\, and behave themselves.
