SUMMARY:The Full Wandle 2026
DESCRIPTION:This ride is a nice challenge. Rde the entire Wandle Trail on a Saturday morning starting from London Bridge (Southwark Needle\, south east side of London Bridge). In fact we are going to cheat a bit by ending the ride at East Croydon Station. So bring your Travel Pass or equivalent to get home by train.  This ride is Amanda’s idea and she will be leading. Total ride distance is 19 miles and we are planning to finish by 2pm following a 9am start. This should allow time for looking around at some of the interesting parts of the Trail and having a coffee break. Parts of the trail are not surfaced and can be quite uneven\, so difficult on narrow wheels. \nRoute outline. From London Bridge take Cycleway 10 to Waterloo.  Over Westminster Bridge and along the cycle lane on the embankment to and over Chelsea Bridge and into Battersea Park. Thames Path to the start of the trail where the River Wandle meets the Thames.  Nice stretches include Abbey Water Mill\, Morden Hall Park and Beddington Park. \nRiders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe.  If you cannot make a ride\, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. SUMMARY:London Cycling Festival Feeder Ride
DESCRIPTION:London Cycling Festival Feeder Ride\nOn Sunday Sept 20th London Cycling Campaign (LCC) is again organising a London Cycling Festival. This will be much larger than the first Festival last year. It will be based on activities by individual borough groups of which Southwark Cyclists is one. Centrepiece will be a 4 mile mass ride from the Festival Hub at St Paul’s to the Hub at Church St\, Marylebone. \nSouthwark Cyclists will run a feeder ride to the St Pau’ls Hub starting from Peckham Rye Park (The Round Cafe\, 10am) via Peckham Square (10.10\, next to Peckham Library and Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre) and Burgess Park Cafe (Stomping Grounds Cafe\, Chumleigh Gardens\, 10.20). The ride is timed to allow people to join the Kidical Mass Safari Cycle. The Southwark Cyclists Feeder ride is open for registration\, link https://lcc.org.uk/events/lcf-southwark/. Please do register as it helps us organise the correct number of marshals. But note it should be possible to turn up at the last minute.  Both our feeder ride and the mass ride will be fully marshalled and suitable for children (and adults of course). Riders of all ages are welcome on the ride but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Same for “adults at risk”.

SUMMARY:Dulwich to Vauxhall Bridge via the River Effra Valley - Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:Dulwich to Vauxhall Bridge via the River Effra Valley \nNOTE. Please register for rides on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers\, link:  https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/dulwich-to-vauxhall-bridge-via-the-river-effra-cycle-ride-tickets-2001875546649?aff=oddtdtcreator \nA flat route from Dulwich following the River Effra. The Effra is one of London’s “Lost Rivers”\, small rivers that have disappeared into underground pipes. Starting 10am from Dulwich Park Café we will first visit Belair Park where the Effra is visible above ground. Next quiet streets to Brockwell Park\, exit on to Brixton Water Lane\, then take Effra Road to Brixton Central.  Long run down Brixton Rd (good bus lanes) to the Oval where we join Cycleway 5 to the Isle of Effra\, next to Vauxhall Bridge.  This is a new open space left following the Tideway Tunnel interception of the Effra and diverting it into the Supersewer. Return past the American Embassy and the Sky Pool\, then a new route to Glenelg Rd where there is a large mural imagining the Effra.  Finally across to Brockwell Park and back streets to Dulwich.  Expect to be back around 12.30. allowing time for a coffee stop. Finish back at Cutty Sark at 1.30pm. Easy-paced ride mostly on quiet streets or Cycleways. Leader Mike K. sets out the route as follows: \n\nRide across Greenwich Park.\nVisit Charlton House and Park.\nStop at Woolwich Barracks.\nPass Plumstead Common\, the Slade\, and Winns Common.\nExplore Rockcliffe Gardens and the old Woolwich Cemetery.\nRide to Shrewsbury Park.\nDescend to Woolwich for coffee.\nReturn to Greenwich via Woolwich Road.\n\nLots to see as usual. This ride really surprised riders earlier in the year – and quite changed their view of Plumstead! \nRiders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
