SUMMARY:Four Prisons and a Ferryman’s Seat Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:Four Prisons and a Ferryman’s Seat  \nNOTE. Please register for rides on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers\, link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/four-prisons-and-a-ferrymans-seat-southwark-healthy-ride-tickets-1998249257320?aff=oddtdtcreator \nSouthwark was famous for its prisons in the 18th and 19th centuries. Learn about them and some other local history on a 2 hour\, 9.5 mile\, flat ride with Bruce leading. Start/finish in Peckham Square (Peckham Library\, Peckham Pulse\, SE15 5RY) \, 10am start\, 12 noon finish. Starts along the Canal Path to Burgess Park\, then Cycleway 17 to the New Kent Rd.  First stop at Newington Gardens (Location of Horsemonger Lane Goal)\, then Angel Place (Location of Marshalsea Prison)\, on to Clink St for quick look at The Clink Museum and on again to Bear Gardens (Location of the Ferryman’s Seat). Return via Gt Suffolk St and Kings Bench St to Scovell Rd (Location of Kings Bench Prison). Next join Cycleway 10 to Coopers Rd and the Canal Path again. As usual keeping to quiet roads\, almost entirely\, plus some nice path at the start/finish. This ride was first done in 2017 led by Harry Clark and most recently by Bruce in April 2025 (see report). Route at https://tinyurl.com/eafmcnf5. \nRiders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe.  If you cannot make a ride\, please cancel so that someone else can take the place.
