SUMMARY:Canada Water to North Greenwich Loop - Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:NOTE. Please register on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers\, link: < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/canada-water-to-north-greenwich-loop-tickets-534863620487 > \nStart/finish at Canada Water\, 10am meet up\, finish 12.30 to 1pm. Can also join ride at Cutty Sark\, next to Foot Tunnel; be there by 10.20.  Bruce Leading. Outward leg using the Thames path\, so lots of see through Deptford\, Greenwich and round to the O2.  Return will use the new segregated lanes along the A206/A200. So not so scenic\, but a good route to try. Coffee stop probably at Charlton shops on return leg.  This ride is nearly all off road or on segregated lanes. Also no hills. Makes it a good ride even for relatively inexperienced cyclists.  Route map at https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1cemvuJ4MjcXfvjD3pXXfIX0tWkAumIU&usp=sharing \nGPX file of route: Canada-Water-to-O2

SUMMARY:BH Monopoly Board Ride (postponed)
DESCRIPTION:Still happening but certainly not on Easter Monday  any more \nWhen it happens this ride round London will visit every location on the Monopoly Board.  Werner leading.  Ride will start at a central location (probably Southwark Needle or South Bank\, check back for this and other details).  Route details nearer date.  Will be about 25 miles\, probably take 4-5 hours.  Although brought to you by the Healthy Ride team\, this is much longer than our usual rides\, but pace will be as easy as ever.  Likely to start early – provisionally 9am. Likely to need refreshment during ride\, so there will be stops.  If you think this crazy idea is attractive\, then get it in to your diary.

SUMMARY:Car-free day 2019
DESCRIPTION:Southwark Cyclists Car Free Day \nSouthwark Cyclists are planning to run rides and events as part of London Car Free Day\, starting at 11am.  The programme will include group rides around the car free area (including Tooley St\, Tower Bridge\, Fenchurch St\, Bank\, Bishopsgate\, London Bridge).  We will be organising some small competitions on Tooley St to test your cycling skills\, e.g. slow races\, track standing\, limbo.  Bring any equipment for street games\, e.g. tennis or badmnton rackets and shuttles/balls\, in case we get bored with cycling (unlikely\, but we might just fancy a quick game of something else). \nWe are asking you to sign up so we have an idea of numbers and can do some planning. If a lot of people are coming we will maintain a constant presence at the Needle.  If we are not there\, come and search for us. Look for a bike with an orange flag on a tall pole.  See you there! \nIt would be helpful to know rough numbers\, so if you are planning to come along there’s an (optional) Evenbrite form at:  https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/southwark-cyclists-car-free-day-tickets-72845110687   Do not worry if you have not done this – just turn up. We will be there. \nSeptember 22nd is London’s biggest car-free day so far\, closing 12.3 miles (20km) of roads in the centre of the city. Roads will be closed around London Bridge\, Tower Bridge and much of the City of London.  Boroughs across the city will also hold events promoting walking\, cycling and public transport\, as well as creating scores of “play streets”.

SUMMARY:Northern Heights. London Bridge to Alexandra Palace.
DESCRIPTION:Special 21 mile Bank Holiday ride to Alexandra Palace and back\, using a different route each way.  Begin northwards through the City and Islington. At Canonbury make the first of several contacts with the New River. Continue to Clissold Park (2nd New River sighting)\, then Woodberry Wetlands (New River 3) and Finsbury Park (New River 4).  Roughly following the New River has ensured a flat ride to this point.  But that changes as the route travels north.  From Finsbury Park pick up Quietway 10\, crossing the New River another 2 times. At Alexandra Palace Station\, leave Q10 and ascend to the Palace and collect the reward for climbing\, a view down upon London (and lunch at the Boating Lake Café). \nReturn route runs a bit to the west of the outward route.  Initially along a short part of the Parkland Walk to Muswell Hill then round to Archway Rd close to Highgate Station in order to join the longer section of Parkland Walk\, a green path along disused railway to Finsbury Park (info at https://underground-history.co.uk/northernh.php).  Delightful\, nearly 2 miles of off-road path.  Through the SW corner of Finsbury Park then join Q10 going south past the Emirates Stadium\, through Barnsbury and Legal London to join the East-West Superhighway (CS3) at Temple Avenue.  CS3 to Monument and across London Bridge to finish.  Hope to finish around 3pm as we will be going at our usual rather easy pace with plenty of stops at places of interest.  Everyone welcome on any type of bike. \nRoute worked out by Werner who will be leading.  Route track here http://taffimai.w2.org.uk/healthy-rides/NorthernHeights-20190505.html

SUMMARY:Greenwich to High Tor of Thamesmead
DESCRIPTION:This is a leisurely easy-paced ride along the Thames Path from the Cutty Sark to the High Tor of Thamesmead. The High Tor isn’t very high because few places on the Thames flood plain are high but on a clear day you can see the whole of south-east London from the top. \nReal name for the Tor is Gallions Hill which isn’t half as nice. Fanciful folk have claimed that it’s a heathen mound with human sacrifices on the top (no I made that up) It’s actually a twenty-metre-high landmark created from recycled excavated material dug up presumably when they built Thamesmead. A spiral footway/cycleway leads to the paved circle on the summit in the form of a compass. \nOn the way the ride will take in the No-Longer-Missing Link on the Thames Path and admire what the campaigning skills of Greenwich Cyclists have achieved. There will be a stop for a tea break. Suitable for all bikes and no pace too slow. About 20miles in all. It will be led by Sarah on 07900 677 706. No texts please\, she thinks it’s good to talk. \nThis ride is organised by Greenwich Cyclists\, a branch of London Cycling Campaign which campaigns for safe\, enjoyable cycling in London. It’s a very famous and important group so there are counterfeit versions. Their genuine website is here: http://greenwichcyclists.org.uk

SUMMARY:Bike Train to Blackfriars
DESCRIPTION:Bike Trainers past — looking surprisingly lovely really when you think what the organisers look like. Arriving at work with a smile on their faces. You can do that too. Come with us and learn off-road and segregated routes to central London via Blackfriars. We bike-buddy riders to their final destination. Escorted all the way and totally free. \n\n\nThe Bike Train starts at 7.45am from Nunhead station\, 7.55am from Peckham Rye Station and 7.55am from Denmark Hill Station. The Peckham Rye and Denmark Hill lines join in Burgess Park which is why it’s OK that they start at the same time. \nThe starting point in Peckham is the bike stands behind McDonalds and at Denmark Hill from outside the cafe in Windsor Walk. Camberwell Grove and Windsor Walk have both been closed since we started so this route keeps getting better. \nOur route takes us through two parks\, up a traffic-calmed back street\, onto the on-pavement cycling lanes on the New Kent Road\, around the Elephant and Castle by-pass and onto the still lovely but no longer so new segregation up St George’s Way and Blackfriars Road. All legal and all as safe as your mother would make it. \nWe get to Blackfriars at 8.30am and anyone who wants can be buddied wherever they want. Return rides arranged on request. For further details or to book your place text 07842 640 207 (me). Or just turn up \nThe map is here: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1Pq8aj3Ylf1S9eg44QbGvAD4qSbM&ll=51.49177636679164%2C-0.0878830999999991&z=12 \n\n\n\nAnd the cycle.travel map is here: http://cycle.travel/map/journey/41005. The info with the map says we do 500m on major roads so it may not know about the on-pavement cycle lanes on the New Kent Road — and 130m pushing. No pushing. I’m fine to push when required but it’s not required. \n\n\n\n\n\nSouthwark Cyclists is the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign which campaigns for more\, better cycling in London. Most of us are members but you don’t have to be. Most of us live in Southwark but some of us don’t and you don’t have to. And everything we do is free

SUMMARY:commuter ride to Blackfriars and central London
DESCRIPTION:Meet the team. From the left\, my husband Bob\, me (the bald one) and Andy who’s in charge. Total age around 200 not including Eleanor. The red bike belongs to Eleanor who took the photo. Well\, maybe it doesn’t belong to her. Maybe she borrowed it. \nBut still\, come with us and learn off-road and segregated routes to central London via Blackfriars. We bike-buddy riders to their final destination. Escorted all the way and totally free. \n\nThe Bike Train starts at 7.45am from Nunhead station\, 7.55am from Peckham Rye Station and 7.55am from Denmark Hill Station.

SUMMARY:Freecycle: Ride London
DESCRIPTION:Southwark Cyclists will be leading a feeder ride to the Prudential Ride London event.  There will also be a led return.  Ride will be fully marshalled and suitable for all cyclists of any age.  Meeting place is at the Cafe on Strakers Rd\, in the middle of Peckham Rye Park. \nThe cafe is marked in a slightly weird place on the map. it is right beside Strakers Road rather than as marked (as anyone who knows the park will know) over in the bushes. \nAfter 10 mind bending minutes of trying to draw a map I will just say that a lot of the route is down parks\, green spaces\, on-pavement cycle lanes and cycle superhighways. \nThere are two pick-up points on the way — the first at around 10.10am will be under Peckham Arch which is the access point into Peckham Square from Rye Lane. Eleanor will be meeting and greeting and the Arch looks like this: \n \nWe will meet a group from the north of the borough at Burgess Park Cafe (which is 200 Albany Road if you want to look at it on a google map) at 10.30am. A group from Crystal Palace are also expected to join us here and then we will all go on together to Southwark Bridge. \nAfter that it’s every man\, woman and child for themselves. The return ride is not at all compulsory but if you want to come back as well then details will be finalised on arrival. \nDetails: \nRoute: Southwark to Southwark Bridge\nStart point: Strakers Road\, Peckham Rye Park\, Peckham SE15 3UA\nEnd point: Southwark Bridge\nStart time: 10:00\nDistance: Five miles\nReturn ride start point: Southwark Bridge\nReturn ride start time: 15:00 \nMore info at https://www.prudentialridelondon.co.uk/events/freecycle/rider-info/led-rides/   (Includes info on other borough led rides.) \nWe are part of the London cycling campaign but you don’t have to be to join. Everything we do is free and everyone is welcome. \n\n

SUMMARY:Peckham Healthy Ride to Greenwich
DESCRIPTION:First ride of 2017. Peckham Square 10am – 12 noon. Usual easy-paced ride on (mostly) quiet roads and paths. Peckham to Greenwich via Telegraph Hill.  Come and burn off some of those excess calories from the seasonal festivities.  A route we have done several times\, but not recently. Uphill start to Telegraph Hill \, then down to the Waterlink Way at Brookmill Park\, along National Route 21\, over Halfpenny Bridge (LCN 2) and on to the Cutty Sark.  Brief break there. Back over new swing bridge\, then Quietway 1 to Surrey Canal Rd.  Next the lovely path across Bridgehouse Meadows followed by the dreadful non-crossing of Old Kent Rd to Brimmington Park and quietish roads and path to Peckham Square.  For route see http://goo.gl/maps/GkEuB.
